  1. Yes, I understand. Once I had the clue that it was a probably a font based problem I knew where to look. I think all graphics programs occasionally have problems, probably because they are so complicated. Adobe has certainly had problems now and then. As far as I know there is not a list of troubleshooting information available for Affinity products or maybe there is and I just haven't found it. Thanks again.
  2. OK, the problem is fixed! I unactivated all my RightFont activations, quit RightFont, rebooted my iMac and then AP could now open files that I previously could not open. I then reopened RightFont, reactivated some of my fonts and AP is still working. Apparently, my fonts can affect AP. Thank you for your help, Sean.
  3. I have not added any fonts to Font Book, in fact that program is a bother. However, I have installed RightFont and added about 4000 fonts to it using a Dropbox connection but I must point out that my home setup is very similar to my work setup where I also use RightFont and Affinity Photo. There are two small differences between the installations: at home I have the fonts on my Mac instead of Dropbox and I'm on Affinity Photo 1.5.1. At work I'm on 1.5.2 BTW, I deleted Affinity Photo from my work Macintosh where I'm having the problems and reinstalled it. There was no change, I get the exact same error messages as before.
  4. Affinity photo says the image (JPEG also PNG) could not be opened because permission was denied. Apparently, there is no image that can be opened, for PSDs I get a different message: The file was not found. This software used to work. I have not changed anything. I'm running Affinity Photo 1.5.2. The files can be opened in Photoshop CS6
  5. I cannot open any PSD or JPEG files in Affinity Photo 1.5.2. This is a new problem, the software used to work. With the PSD files, I get a message that "The File was not Found". With the JPEGs it tells me I don't have permission to open them. I am planning to switch from Photoshop CS6 which can open all of these files to Affinity Photo. This is a rather significant problem.
  6. I am also having this problem. Apparently, I cannot open any photos with Affinity Photo 1.5.2. This was not always the case. When I try to open a PSD sitting on the desktop, Photo tells me that it doesn't exist. If I try to open a JPEG on the desktop, it tells me that Permission is Denied. BTW Photoshop CS6 is able to open all of these files without problem.
  7. When I make a magic wand selection, I would like to do some refinement with the freehand selection tool. However, I can't find the keyboard shortcut for adding to my existing selection rather than just making a new selection.
  8. Is there some way to access all of my fonts besides Apple's Font Book. Specifically, I was thinking of Suitcase Fusion but any other practical solution would help. The program is really coming along BTW. Some of the things you can do with Designer are amazing. Also it's very fast.
  9. Thanks, that is exactly what I was looking for. I would suggest that this setting should also be available from the Character menu. The way it is set up now, you need to have 2 palettes open when you are working with text and if it is just a word or a line of text, you don't want to get into Paragraphs. Also, it would be great if "Exactly" was the default or could be made to be the default. You want to control the leading always, I think. I realize that you are still working on the software and it could take a long time build all of the desired functionality. I'm interested in the long haul as my current software tools work for now but will not work sometime in the future as some of them are not being updated any longer.
  10. I don't see a place to set the leading for text. There is a relative setting in Paragraph but that is not good enough for graphic design. The leading must be precisely adjustable. My apologies if I missed the setting. Another thing concerning text, when I import an Illustrator CS6 document, it appears that I cannot make changes to the existing text. This is also needed for graphic design. I have thousands of existing documents that I would need to be able to import and change if I was to use Designer instead of Illustrator for my work. I have already purchased 2 copies of Designer, it has great features and could potentially replace Illustrator for any job where the requirement is to send a PDF file for final output such as ads and some digital printing. One big problem is packaging. For these projects, native Illustrator files are sent to the printer so that bleeds and overprints can be adjusted by the printer. You might need to be able to round-trip files back to Illustrator (AI format) in order for this to work because this is an established workflow with most printers, especially in the USA. Again, my apologies if this has already been discussed.
