Thanks very much for that info.
I did the highlights and background, as you suggested, and it got much better. I followed it up with some brightness/contrast adjustment and a little vibrance. It got much better yet.
I thought these images were going to be total losses but this is an amazing program! I'm going to be able to get some pretty good images out of these.
Thanks, again!

Hi all -
I'm very new to Affinity. I am hoping it will be a good alternative to Photoshop for my editing needs.
I have several photos with a washed out / white background while the foreground object is very dark... almost black. I can increase the exposure to bring out the details in the foreground object but the background gets fully washed out. Is there a method to darken the background and then brighten the foreground in a picture?
I'm attaching one example file showing the problem.
Thanks for any help
PS. ...I tried to upload the file but the upload failed... three times...
Affinity Photo V1.8.5 --- Update ---> Setup Failed
in V1 Bugs found on Windows
Posted
I have just tried to update my Affinity Photo installation to V1.8.5 but after clicking Update, it responds Setup Failed.
I have run this as Administrator. This is the same process that has worked correctly in the past for previous version updates.
What's the problem?
