  1. Yes I looked at the article you suggested. Though it did give me clarity on a few points it offered nothing that helped my current problem. I sent a tech support request to Serif .. so I'm hoping someone there will have an answer. I can't possibly be the only person with this problem. I have no desire to go back to photoshop (seeing as the only version I have is Elements 6.0) .. but I need colour accuracy as Affinity is not giving me this right now. But thanks for your suggestions thus far. It is appreciated. I'm just frustrated because I have a lot of art panels to get done with post work and this inconsistency with colour and light value is putting a right spanner in the works.
  2. I have also just tried this in Photoshop (elements 6.0) .. and the image exports EXACTLY as per the image seen in Photoshop. So something is definitely up with Affinity. Somehow the preview i get in Affinity is not reflective of what is going to be outputted. Is there tech support for Affinity? Cuz I really need to solve this problem.
  3. Fair enough .. doesn't change the fact that on the same screen I see the image in affinity with a different contrast to the output image. This is on the same screen so something is going on and I need this fixed. Photoshop had a WYSIWYG mode (What you see is what you get!) .. why is there nothing like this on Affinity? This is a bit of a deal breaker for me using this app because if it can't accurately display what the out looks like then this is ludicrous.
  4. I have tried specifying the samsung profile in affinity but it seems to not change anything. I change the document profile manually (cuz it doesn't wanna apply it automatically) to the samsung one. Previewing the image I've tried several apps .. photos, the windows explorer preview .. and quicklook. In each case the preview is darker than affinity. I then look at the output image on my ipad and other computers and the image is darker there too .. this is most annoying as I go to all the trouble to affect colour change and then find I have to 'best guess' affinity's levels in order to lighten things up and get what I want. I don't understand what profile affinity is using .. or why it just can't show me what the image actually looks like.
  5. I have the profile installed into the windows display system .. so everything I see should be correct for this monitor. The problem I'm finding is that despite everything the output from Affinity is NOT the same as what I see in the Affinity window. The image as display in Affinity is lighter than that of the output. So one can't tell me the profile is to blame .. at worst everything should look the same .. there's something going on in the output which is making things darker. I just want the image I see in Affinity to look the same as the output.
  6. Hi, So I have tried to find an answer to this and frustratingly no one seems to have asked this questions anywhere. Here is the deal I have a Samsung 49 inch Widescreen monitor. I have downloaded the colour profile for it and am currently using it. Affinity seems to default to assigning the sRGB profile no matter what although I can change this. I'm trying to do colour correction on images but once exported my images are darker than they appear in Affinity. If they were lighter then I could assume this is simple the preview of the image being displayed with that reduced data contrast thing (whatever the hell it's called .. where an image has not quite as much black or white brightness to render it broadcast safe). So how do I do this? All I want is that my output should look like it is in Affinity .. otherwise colouring is just guess work and I don't believe in this day in age that THIS is the state of things. Can someone please tell how to turn on the 'What you see is what you get' thing .. so that I can actually see what this is supposed to look like as exported. Much obliged for any and all help. Sparkie
  7. Okay well I created an art board .. seems there's no way to easily just ask it to create a specific size .. one has to zoom right in and carefully pick the pixel size. But now I have this is there any way to have an image snap to the shape of the artboard? Manually aligning these things is going to be tedious otherwise. NB .. Never mind .. I just found the magnet tool .. does the job nicely.
  8. Well I bought the app outright on the app store .. after seeing that it could do PDF creation. But upon opening it there was no obvious 'page' layout .. and the help topic does precisely nothing. Typing 'How to create multiple pages in Designer' in google produced absolutely nothing .. it's one of those REALLY simple things that no you need to know and yet inexplicably has never once been asked on the internet .. ever! So thank you for answering this .. I'm not really clear on how one creates multiple art boards with a 16:9 ratio at 4000 x 2250 pixels easily .. but at least I have something to go on now. Man making PDF's is WAY more headache than it should be. Yes I've tried making them from pages .. but that takes forever to load up a document with all my stuff .. and then if you make a mistake you can't re-order or insert new pages (I have no idea why .. but with graphics it does NOT allow you to do that). Anyway .. I shall go try this out and see what happens. Frankly I'm not sure what Designer does that's so different from photo .. and there's no real explanation of the differences anywhere .. even on the app store the description is kinda vague. I LOVe Affinity photo .. even though I know how to use about 1/2 a percent of it's features.
  9. Hi .. I'm having a real hard time creating a PDF format of my graphic novels. If I try to use 'Comic life' to produce a PDF is ends up gigabytes in size. My acrobat creator is so old that it barely runs and when it does it crops all sides of the image so I'm missing parts of the pics as the PDF is created (I have tried everything to resolve this). So looking at apps that handle PDF creation I saw that designer will do this. I already use Affinity Photo and like it .. but I can't for the life of me find any user manual info on how to create multiple pages in designer for export to PDF. I've seen screenshots of an 'overview of pages' mode in designer so I know it's possible .. but how do you do this? I can only open up stuff independently. I'm going out of my mind here can some one PLEASE explain this so I can create a PDF and move on with my life! Any advice is MUCH appreciated. Sparkie
  10. Ahhh ... Very awesome thanks. Yeah I guess I need to sit down with the youtube tutorials on how to use this app properly (something I should probably do with every app I use). Many thanks, Sparkie
  11. Hi, I'm new to Affinity and have jut starred using it for Post production on my artwork. I was using Pixlr until Autodesk pulled the dickish move ever by cancelling everyone's subscription and so I needed an alternative. Now let me explain WHY I used Pixlr for so long. Yes it's beautique program designed for applying pre made filters for phone photo's. BUT .. it did one thing that no other program (Photoshop, Paint, GIMP etc) still doesn't do .. I'll explain what this is. So in pixlr one could chose a mask brush that allowed you to draw, or sloppily paint on the area of an image you wanted to affect. You could erase par of this mask if you accidentally masked too much .. or add to it. VERY simple. And you could feather the edge so there's none of that hard edge crap that you need to then arse around with. Photoshop could really learn from this. The point is that with this mask you could then affect just that area, adding highlights to faces, or desaturating, or adding filters .. anything ... you you could invert the mask and affect everything except what you originally masked. It was perfect. And then they cancelled the program. Sure Pixlr still works .. but without the 'pro' features that I need to do effective post work. So after talking with the guys at apple they put me on to Affinity. Now I gotta say that Affinity is seriously AWESOME! I'm loving so much of it but there's a few things I don't know if it does .. or how to do it. For instance .. In trying to recreate my old technique of masking a certain area I use an elliptical mask .. feather the edge to about 350 px .. and then apply an adjustment layer to highlight people or objects. Alternatively I can invert the mask and lessen the surroundings .. but the selection is very rigid. There doesn't seem to be a way to rotate the elliptical selection (I'm just tonne call this a mask even though i know technically it's not ... it's just easier), or to squeeze it after the fact. Sure I can redraw it but not being able to affect it's orientation after it's on the page is kinda limiting. I have tried using actual layer masks and I have NO CLUE how to make them do anything. I select layer mask .. do stuff .. and all I get is a red mask that then does nothing ... how do I mask specific places and things? That's what I need. Once I'm done with Affinity I still have to import to Pixlr as I like to apply some of the filters which darken shadows but also smooth them and it makes for a really deep looking image. I REALLY wish Affinity had stuff like this built in .. or some way to be able to make them. It's a combination of a slight Blur, darkening shadows, smoothing highlights and adding a slight glow to things. I can't see a way to do this in Affinity (just like I can't do it in Photoshop either). Yes I understand I'm a bit of a pleb with photography .. desiring the help of pre-made lens effects etc. But what can I tell you .. it works for me. So, I hope I've explained myself to the point where you can see what I'm trying to achieve. I feel confident I'll be using Affinity for a while to come. But there needs to be a way for me to select a more precise area in my mask .. and still be able to feather edges and add and subtract from the mask if necessary. Would appreciate any thoughts. Great app. Sparkie
