  1. Hi, I'm in the middle of work and needed to go back and export an old Designer file to Photoshop CS5. The Designer file kept exporting the document with all the layers rasterised when viewing inside Photoshop (In some previous release it worked fine). After tinkering with various export options to no avail I wondered if it had something to do with the strokes. The file is just a series of concentric curves with strokes applied. I tried 'expanding' the strokes to convert them to shapes and tried to export again. This solved the problem. So it seems like something has changed somewhere - just thought you'd like to know.. Maybe the support has changed for my ancient copy of Photoshop Thanks..
  2. I haven't rebooted yet but am finding that everytime I restart Designer, it goes back to normal and then over time gets worse and worse. That's why I thought it was maybe a memory thing but I've had task manager running the whole time and don't really see any strange ram usage. I do note that when dragging a group of a few circles for example, the cpu usage goes up to 30% which may or not be bad? It's an old (but still good!) 6 core Intel CPU and in task manager I'm seeing the 12 (6 physical, 6 virtual) cores all working. Seems a bit high for dragging a few shapes about but maybe that's normal - I've never really eye balled cpu usage when working..! Also, the document size is A4 @300 ppi so nothing crazy to tax the system..
  3. So it's starting getting really choppy again since my last post..I'm still only playing with a few shapes as I'm doing some pattern design so nothing taxing..it does seem to be a cumulative effect. I've got 6GB ram free as opposed to the 8GB I had when I started..don't know if this is normal as I l've opened and closed some A.Designer files during working. Could this be some memory leak type thing?
  4. Hi Murfee, I was just typing when your reply came in. Strange, after restarting the program (not the machine), it's quite a bit more responsive. I don't know if the lag is a progressive accumulation over time now but having tried a couple of sessions it's been dragging horribly after a while. I'll keep playing around as before and try and note any performance decrease. Just to add that nothing else is running on the system and have 8GB ram free (out of 12)..Bit strange.
  5. Hi all, I just updated my copy of Designer up to the current release and now it's totally unusable due to lag. Creating just a simple shape and trying to move it/edit it results in a huge delay. I can't remember exactly which version I had prior but I think it was the direct predecessor and all was perfect with that release. Is there anything that I can try/known issues before I go ahead and try reinstalling? I'd normally go through and try various things but I'm pushed for time and so am hoping someone can give me some pointers? My machine is running Windows 10 and has plenty of horsepower. Thanks in advance..
  6. Sorry, I probably should have attached a picture to better explain - please have a look at my attached example picture. For example, if I wanted to change the font tracking to a part of a sentence, It's a bit distracting to edit the text whilst the text highlight is still visible while making changes. In Photoshop, if you hit Ctrl H with the text highlighted, the text highlight disappears even though the text is still actually highlighted and active. I just wondered if there was a way to visually hide the selection?
  7. Hi, When I'm adjusting my type in Photoshop on some selected text (for example when tweaking kerning etc) it's very handy to be able to hide the highlighted text selection (Ctrl and H on Windows) to give you an unobstructed view of the tweaks your making. Is there a way of doing this in Affinity Designer? Thanks :)
  8. Okay thanks MEB. It's a bit tricky to use like this but no problem :) Can you say if there any plans to mirror the 'seperated mode' Mac functionality to the Windows version too? I'm still switching in and out of Affinity Designer/Photoshop as and when I'm needing to use the vector tools which are fantastic when comparing to the rather limited Photoshop ones ;)
  9. Hi, I can't for the life of me work out how I would open up two (or more) Affinity Designer files and have them display side by side on the same screen? I found a post mentioning "Window/Seperated view" but I have no options for this if I go into the Window menu myself? I've attached a screenshot of how I would do it in Photoshop CS5. Thanks in advance...
  10. Thanks James, the problem it seemed however was something else which leads onto Sima's post below. Yes exactly that - I realised later what the problem problem was. My multiplied grunge layer was painted with black onto a transparent layer and just as in Photoshop, a levels adjustment would have no effect. The way I used to get around this in Photoshop was to just drop a white solid fill underneath and merge the top transparent layer with the fill, or in Affinity Designers case, paint straight onto a rasterised white pixel layer. Thanks!
  11. Hi, I've recently made the jump to Affinity Designer and have been really impressed with the package as a whole especially considering the price - a real Adobe killer ;) I have a fairly good grasp of the fundamentals but cannot for the life of me figure out a very simple problem. I have a pixel layer with a grungy texture on it. I'd like to 'crush' the whites and the blacks to make it really contrasty and this is achieved simply enough with a levels adjustment layer. My problem likes in that as soon as I clip it to just affect the grungy pixel layer, the levels adjustment has no effect. If I unclip the levels adjustment and place it at the top of the layers stack it works, but of course it affects ALL of the layers in the project. Can anyone enlighten me to what I'm doing wrong?! As a long time Photoshop user, I would have simply pressed Ctrl+Alt+G to apply a clipping mask to the levels adjustment which would have then just affected my grungy texture layer and nothing below. I've seemingly tried all combinations of 'drop zones' when trying to clip the levels adjustment to no avail. Help!
