Problems with Resize Canvas Tool

My version of AP is 1.6.5.135

The problems I am having are incosistent giving me unexpected margin widths only after a Resize Document operation.

An example is as follows.

Original picture size 2793 x4177pix

Cutom crop ratio to 234.5x350

Resize Document to 234.5x350mm Resample Bicubic

Using two stages in Canvas Resize I add 7mm to the top and sides and 10mm to the bottom.

The result give some extentions narower than requested and some wider.

I only get the problem after resizing the document.

As a side issue it would be nice if I could resize canvas by entering the aditional width and height required (like in PS) which would save me some arithmetic. Perhaps there is an option for this which I have yet to find?

There are 5 options for resampling an image when resizing. Can someone please walk me through the purpose of each.
