  1. Hi, here it is, a simple scribble in AD. One can copy paste the vector paths from Illustrator into Photoshop, but copy paste them from AD and it doesnt woek, its as if Adobe have got it all buttoned up, I cannot goo buying a prog just for the very occasional need of that ability. For AD to be useful getting paths into pshop would be good. Steve1 draw a shape in AD and export as svg.svg
  2. Hi, AD 1.8 I am using paths in Photoshop CS6 to give scaleable shapes as Adobe intend them for. They also have a custom shape tool which can be set to draw as paths, if one wants a pre-existings shape, ) never anything I need as I am tracing items in photos. I have tried a few export options in AD but none open as paths or vector shapes. Either get raster or cannot parse or unknown object. I open a sample svg file from the internet, then copy paste that, it comes in as rasterized in Pshop. Just what do I need to do ? I am also needing to get Rhino3D vector curves into Photoshop and thought via Affinity might be the best way as there is no direct way whatsoever. Thanks Steve1
  3. I have AD but not APh which I presume is Affinity Photo, but wmf is a vector file and I have it open in AD a vector prog. I use Pshop for rasters. Would I need to buy Affinity Photo just to convert wmf files ? Can I get AD to batch convert or not ? I can export individual wmf files from it, but batch convert would be quicker. Steve1
  4. Hi, I have loads of wmf images I need to convert as Microsoft have stopped wmf from displaying, rather than have to open each one, one by one select export gif and save, I wish I could record those actions, then apply the named actions to a chosen folder with the wmf files in, as one can in photoshop. Is this possible ? else how does AD carry out such mundane tasks on hundreds of files in a folder ? Steve1
  5. MikeW, I drag a guide out then another, I cant get a distance between them doing that. I draw a rectangle, then another, ctrl hover needs the first selected, I drag out a second but the dimension vanishes so I cant place it a certain distance from the first. explain a bit more please how with the dimension showing one can place the one item a certain distance from the other ? how does one position guides. In Freehand one double clicked the guide and entered a distance relative to origin in a box. If I want a guide so many mm from another how is this done ? I have spent a lifetime working with rulers, not a day goes past without getting hold of a ruler., plastic , metal or wooden, place end of it and measure a distance, place a mark where I need to cut or draw etc. why AD wish to alter the basics of life defeats me. I am not using AD as as I need 0,0, so not able to use this prog. unless this hover method can see me move guides and objects to an exact place. Its so base fundamental I am lost for words. why are the rulers even there in that case. I so want to use this prog, but need 0,0 placement unless there are other ways to place objects at a certain distance from others., to move an object and be able to enter a location for it relative to another object and it moves to that data entry. some examples of how such is done ? Steve1
  6. Sorry cant see that , any chance of a screen dump on how one access that menu and exactly where it is ? can I though make it an outline only circle and adjust the stroke weight ? Steve1
  7. Hi, fundamental need. I have just drawn a few straight lines in the shape of a hollow T, and need to snap a horiz guide to the horiz line at lower left arm of the hollow T, I click on magnet it goes a shade darker (the contrast for that on/off is bad, how is that altered) and drag guide down from ruler but it has no snap to my horiz line, it snaps to a blob which is half way up the selection box but that is not my line. I turn off the magnet and try again . no different. It is imperative we are able to snap guides to lines, or nodes on a line etc. Steve1
  8. No, I am quoting from gdenby above who said use expand stroke, this thread is about Affinity Designer. ( I use pshop CS6 for raster work on photos) Steve1
  9. Hi, I AM AFRAID AD DEVELOPERS HAVE KILLED MY FAITH IN THIS BEING A GO AHEAD LISTEN TO USERS PROG. there are 4500 views of this request , vastly more than any other thread on page 1 except Linux and nothing has been done in 3 yrs. I have just updated AD to the current version 1.6.5 and within seconds of creating a page I need to place ruler origin at end of a line to measure my rivet spacing but how is this done, then I search this to find its being now considered oct 2015, well thats just under 3 yrs ago. Sorry without such a basic feature I cant use AD. I last used it a few yrs ago, couldnt fathom out how to cut two lines to join them at their junction, something I do thousands of times, told it cant be done easily, couldnt place ruler 0,0 and gave up. I am back, give it another go. tell me please both are possible now . 3 yrs wait isnt right. IF SUCH A SIMPLE CODING THING IS BEYOND AD, I AM SHOCKED, what have the updates aded that were more important than this ? If we need something we have to wait 3 yrs or more ? AD need to be taken over by someone, . Sorry but if such a basic ruler thing isnt done after 3 or more yrs I have lost faith in AD team who should be keen to create a vector prog which has all the basic needs . To not be able to measure anything is nuts. To not be able to cut two paths that cross and join the parts required and deleted the offcuts is also nuts. I await good news, please on both...fingers crossed. dont tell me the photo prog also doesnt have this ..oh double dear . We have to be able to measure the length of things !!!! AD clearly not designed by actual vector users, but by artists who never pick up a ruler as such. That would explain the lack of a cutting tool. Steve1
  10. Hi, thanks for the replies, bit late here in getting back to you guys. Q1. I have typed Expand stroke into the help search window and nothing is found, Where is this command ? Q2. I have drawn the line, size 5mm for 5mm dia rivets, given it dash then first entry box 0.001 (this being the width of the seed that the dot is based on, so may as well make it minute, second box I entered 25 for 25mm spacing but it was huge, entered 5 and I have 25mm spacing, is not this box in mm ? Its this versus the text path method. When I used macromedia Freehand we could create any symbol, select a path and then go add text to path and select a symbol we had drawn as the 'text' e.g draw a dog and have lots of dogs along a path, adjust leading, baseline shift, spacing, to get effect required. Get hold of end of text symbol and drag it along path to move the dogs along to wherever required. Q2.5 To use a dingbat, if I find a perfect dot one, can I have it as a circle and adjust the circle thickness ? I need to do such when later on discover that scale circles are not visible on the end result and need enlarging or outline thickening up ! The whole advantage of vectors. Q3. Can this be done in AD as this is what I need maybe for precise control aand keeping file size down, and if I alter the dog to say a spaniel from a red setter, would all paths with spaniel become red setters ? Q4. Is text path method going to minimise file size versus the dash line method, it sounds as if it might. Q5. Also can I draw the aircraft full size and thus I will need a paper size custom about 9.15 metres long and a few metres high ? Q6. what is the advantage of having each item , each panel line, each road segment etc etc drawn become a separate layer ? Cheers Steve1
  11. Hi, file attached. all I know is in 20yrs or more since win95, I have never had this problem occurring, certianly though since XP, I seem to recall in 95 days maybe freehand not handling jpg, I was an tifff user, no probs, but since win2k or certainly xp, I have been placing jpg into Freehand, and CAD, be that Rhino, or a few others, no expanding jpegs. Designer shouldnt do this. its a 300dpi jpg placed into a 300dpi a4 document and it should be at its created size of A6. ...simples...squeeek ! I work to loads of rasters and need them to stay at their size they were created at. DBenz
  12. Hi, AD 1.5.3.69 for PC Open it into photoshop, its 1227pxels wide. Doing now a test, create new AD page A4 size 300 dpi. see image. create a new jpg in photoshop 300 dpi 105mm x 148.5mm which is half width and height of this page, thus it is A6. both image and page are at 300dpi, go file>place and bring in the image, it should occupy quarter of the page, instead its twice as big. I have been doing such raster imports using files (jpg and tiff) created in photoshop since win 95 and know this territory like the back of my hand, never before has this ever occurred in a program. AD has a fundamental flaw here. top left it declares image as 72dpi. Its altering its resolution. second test, create and save the A6 image as a tif, not a jpg, place into AD and its the correct size ! AD is failing to understand the resolution of a photoshop jpg !!!!! AS pshop jpgs work fine in CAD and Freehand, its AD at fault. Can someone else test this, do this test with photoshop and AD. I have seen Rhino3D in print option do such, when user creates a 300dpi raster print and importing it into photoshop sees it becomes 72dpi. A gremlin there. I cant even start to use AD as jpg images are not correct size. DBenz
  13. Hi, My first ever attempt to use AD and draw over a raster image. Searched on import raster, found nothing, I see there is File>place so guessed that is it. Raster image 300 pixels/inch 103.89mm wide AD new document 400dpi A4 portrait (210mm wide) thus the raster should easily fit on the page, its half its width and also less than its dpi. Go file>place and the result is twice as wide as the page ! as its only 103.89mm its in fact about 4 times as big as expected. I have been using Macromedia Freehand this last 30 years and Rhino3D the last 10 or so years so I am familiar with importing rasters into vector progs. Its name top left I see has @72dpi, so it has rescaled it to be 72dpi. Why has it done that ? I need the images to be places at their true size. Now what is the fix please and how do I stop it ever doing that again ? Cheers Steve1
  14. Hi, I have selected a simple 10x10mm square drawn in Rhino and gone export as pdf, up pops pdf24 (sheep icon), this prog thinks A4 A3 etc etc, as do all pdf maker progs. so ok that. Open it in AD and I get an A4 shape with that square somewhere within, very much as the preview in pdf24. When I export a selected item it should be touching the edges of the export frame. I take artwork into photoshop and by having a box drawn around it, and selecting that box every time, I guarantee all the various parts will be same scale and in register. This is giving my shape an A4 box in AD but I havent drawn an A4 box, so each export will vary and nothing will be in register. If I open this pdf into Photoshop I just get the 10x10 open up, with transparent background, so Photoshop treats it correctly., no A4 white file with 10x20 box within it. How do I get this to do this in AD ? Rhino is at fault here for not including export as eps, which makes whatever you select hug the edge of the exported file. They don't consider the world outside of 3D, no desire to allow users to also use graphics progs. A very insular approach. Steve1
