  1. Thanks for that, I (not knowing anything about dic files etc.) had no idea I needed more than one file. Adding the other available .aff file has finally solved my problem after years of tedious language switching every block of text. Maybe it's just me, but I guess the wording felt like adding the dic file was needed but anything else was optional. I'm curious as to why common language packs are not included? It doesn't seem licensing related and the files are not large. Regardless, I'm glad to finally have this figured out and sincerely thank you for taking the time to help me.
  2. I've been manually switching every text block I write to English (United States) and I'm getting tired of it. I looked at suggestions of how to install the en-CA and found "How do I add additional Dictionaries to Affinity Publisher?" and I was able to follow exactly as directed but my language still doesn't show up on the available list (Still Unknown) after restarting the application 3 times and checking the folder to make sure it's in a folder named en_CA with the file en_CA.dic inside it. I'm frustrated that something as simple as spellchecking requires me to do so much troubleshooting for Canadian English.
  3. There's no excuse in my opinion. In a piece of vector software, the ability to trace cuts work time exponentially and is among the most valuable tools to a vector artist and productivity. If I can use the magic selection tool in pixel persona and get a selection shape based on pixels that I'd be happy with as a vector, why can't they just turn that selection into a vector shape? That's all that's needed! I don't need a tool that does the entire image! In fact having a tool that turns a selection into a vector would be JUST as useful if not MORE useful then sliders and settings. This is a frequently requested feature, so looking for even a partial solution should be a priority. Don't waste your breath talking about all the other crappy or overpriced options that are a available out there. I've used most and paid for some, this is a matter of enabling artists to save time and effort and increase productivity. Every time I have to go to another piece of software to accomplish something, it doubles the time required. And, as I've stated above, if they already have the ability to select pixels, it's just a matter of adding a vector to the already existing feature. I can give affinity props and 4 out of 5 stars for everything they've done to date! I love it all! But the last star in their 5 star rating will always be held back until they make an effort to solve this one missing feature. (And yes it is an essential tool for vector artists, anyone who says otherwise is spending a lot more time than they need to to accomplish their work).
  4. No, still just moving the center point to the other points I need to snap with. Hoping an easier way comes along some day.
  5. Here's a version of the file that can be used to test the issue. As for the work around: I've been able to use the snap to object bounding box option to accomplish my goal by using the "Include bounding box midpoints" option and moving the midpoint to the corner points that I want to snap to each other. This works but is several extra steps and time consuming to accomplish what I feel is a simple snap. I'm 98% sure AI had this feature because I don't ever remember having this issue before. SnapToCornerPointIssues.afdesign
  6. I've found one tedious workaround but this shouldn't be so difficult.
  7. I'm working on a Celtic Knot project with lots of overlapping irregular shapes. I'm having problems finding any setting combination that will line the corner points of any two shapes accurately. The irregular shapes mean that the bounding box is frequently not a helpful reference but nothing seems to allow me to drag a shape to line up two corner points. I've tried the force pixel alignment but everything just moves in bigger chunks and still doesn't line up. I can get edges to line up sometimes but then I have to slide up and down or side to side trying to get it to line up with the perpendicular lines of the snapped shape and never get a perfect line. Any advice on how I can move a shape to snap to another shape based on the corner points?
  8. I'm sorry for not coming back to this topic sooner. In my case the issue has been resolved and I have to attribute one of the problems to Windows 10 and not Affinity. I had mentioned seeing similar behaviour on another PC when there was a windows update waiting to install but that it couldn't be the case this time because Windows was up to date. I have this PC set to ask to update rather than automatically do it because Microsoft Chooses the worst times to hog my limited bandwidth with downloads. Even though I have this PC set to ask when to update and after manually checking if there were any updates, it was after updating a day later that the issue disappeared. Hidden downloads and network activity in Windows has always been a problem but this was behaving like RAM was fully used when it was showing only 30-45% used. Completely fine now and since that Windows update I've had no more choppy behaviour. I've found Microsoft loves making a liar out of me, but I assure you I checked for updates multiple times before turning to this forum. The other issue I was having seems to be a bit of a unique situation related to a specific texture from a slide scan. I have been archiving slides digitally at very high resolutions and a batch of very old ones have a high detail texture (Looks like bacteria under a microscope) that seems to mess with the noise reduction filter. It cleans the image up and then reverts almost instantly. I can see the image noise reduction and then it's like it changes its mind and says, NOPE that's not noise, that's detail and puts it right back where it started even if I crank the settings way up. Since it is only the one batch of slides this filter has problems with I've since moved on happily with my product and without an Adobe subscription TYVM. (I also have a G-Sync monitor and my issue is resolved even with it.)
  9. CPU was tested in 3DMark, but I don't see it being the problem in any possible situation. When I tested an issue in SWTOR for Bioware we found a very edge case where their program was very sensitive to ram errors. My gaming laptop had run everything at the time with no problems but was crashing for SWTOR repeatedly. In that case it turned out that RAM was the problem so I am familiar with the idea but this is not an issue with the CPU as I've watched the CPU closely (On CAM) while the problem is occurring and nothing else becomes bottle necked by the issues in Photo. I am satisfied that if this system is the problem the software is not worth a penny. I'd suggest maybe the RTX GC might be a problem because it's newer and different but if Affinity doesn't even use hardware acceleration I don't know how that could be. I like Affinity so I'm hoping there's a way to solve this. Anyhow I'm done till tomorrow so we'll see if anything changes by then.
  10. Ok, so to humor those who insist my hardware is somehow at fault I ran your tests. 3DMark scored 9324 ahead of 89% of computers benchmarked Memtest86 ran 4 rounds over 3 hours and came back 100% at 0 errors. Not wasting any more time on the 3rd test when I know there is only one piece of software with an issue. I'm going to do the windows refresh dealio and see if that helps at all and then I'll put together a demo video and post it here and through Twitter and see if that triggers any help.
  11. So, quite the debate. I had originally switched from Windows to MacOS over a decade ago because windows and it's software were unreliable and lost work cost me a great deal of time and money as a graphic designer back then. Moving to MacOS and the same software in the Mac version solved every problem I ever had with crashes and lost work. Now that I've been using Windows 10 without issue for a couple of years I've decided to try moving my workflow back over because Mac "Just Works" is less and less true these days now that Apple has changed focus from intuitive reliability to gimicky feature competition with Android and Samsung etc. I've been building PCs for gaming for years and am aware of most (Not an expert who knows everything by far) issues like those mentioned above but this system is as stable as any I've seen and it rips through anything I've put up against it without issues until now. Admittedly I have been adding more and more software to the machine as I've been moving my workflow over but I've checked every background application and shut everything down except Affinity Photo without seeing the problem go away. Clean resets of the application and operating system made no difference. On other systems the mouse jumping behavior was usually a result of background windows updates that needed installation clogging up the RAM or something else and when updates were completed the problems went away but there is no such thing happening on this system and RAM usage is well below 40% at the worst of times. All 6 cores peak quickly and recover when performing the denoise filter but it is not a process that's causing the mouse judder/lag. as it will occur by just mousing over a menu item, persist for 4 seconds and then recover, then reoccur when selecting a tool etc, etc,... Very annoying. Switching to Affinity from Adobe (Money Grab inc.) was one of the best things I've ever done and I love the way Affinity works for the most part. But this makes working with it almost unbearable. That's the back story I didn't include with my OP. I am open to suggestions, no matter how simple. But be aware that in most cases when I call for help, after spending an hour doing everything I've already done again for the sake of the help desk checklist my issues usually get escalated to software engineers for solutions. I don't just jump on a forum or call a help desk until I've tried everything I know how to do already.
  12. I just bought the PC version based on my usage experience with the Mac version of Affinity Photo. I'm experiencing a number of issues starting with the application slowing down a high end PC where the mouse pointer is jumping all over the place when in the app and not elsewhere. PC Specs: i5-9600K 3.7GHz 16GB ram RTX 2080 This computer has never experienced any lag or slowdown like this even when editing video. Additionally adjustment filters like denoise will show a preview of the adjustment and then revert, the desired effect never actually stays. I'm having trouble using this software in exactly the same way I have on my much less powerful Mac mini and feel like I need a refund. I'd be happy to video the problems and post them here or send them somewhere.
