  1. I can import ase swatches but not .aco. so the question becomes, if I can not import .aco is there a way to convert aco to ase so that I could then import them?
  2. Just watched the video where the gent applys the fuzzy stroke to the bee. then has to manually apply do it all again to the other 3 black stripes. what I want to do is create a style ONCE, save the style and be able to apply it again. not do it again step by step. I searched help but it only returns apply PRE-created styles. so it might be right in front of my face or we may be using different words for the same thing or perhaps its hidden and I just am not looking in the right place? In additiion to creating and saving my own styles Id like to be able to import other folks styles. These are often known as libraries or sets of styles in other software. In fireworks for example I have style palettes for each one of my clients in addition to default style palettes and others Ive aquired over the years such as "metals" or "glass" or "plastics" to name a few sets I have which have many styles within each. Im still learning affinity as I just purchased today. so many this is already available to do? help?
  3. I note that instead of saying convert to paths you say convert to curves. and this is kinda confusing since many of us know "curves" as a photo editing term having nothing to do with vectors or shapes. and curves suggests curves. whereas paths suggests editable shape. Because every shape has a path, but not every editable path, has a curve. in addition you use the term nodes instead of points when discussing the editable locations in a path. the thing is, "nodes" is a term used in many 3D and 2D software applications to denote an area where you can link additional assets or attributes. If you take words and use them in a way that is not in keeping with industry standards, and you later want to implement that kind of application your going to run into a real problem with regard to dialog with your customers across the world. "nodes" as applied in the examples you can find see, in the below url, may be something you might add as your company and your software advance in the future. One thing I learned as a designer whose products were international...you have to research the terms you want to use and see what other long term established software use as terms. This helps you reach the widest possible customer base while speaking a lingo they all understand without conflict resulting from limiting terms to ones own cultural dialog. Just my two bits. vector paths see also: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_path examples of nodes http://tinyurl.com/imagenodes
  4. Just downloading the PURchased affinity design onto my mac. now all I need is the same thing on my Ipad? any chance you might do this for ipad pro? Im headed there this year. and Id love to be able to work from home and on the go.
  5. In fireworks I have pages which sometimes share layers. I might have 12 pages which each have 7-8 layers with 2 of those layers shared across say 4 pages and maybe 1 layer shared across all pages. in this way when I want to update a series of images all I have to do to make a complete "redesign" in some cases is just update those share layers. I dont have to reinvent the wheel 8 times. or copy and past a shared item into 8 layers or go into 8 layers to update a logo, for example, that all 8 pages use. thus all 8 pages can have unique content. I love this because it means I can not only work with illustrations that I might want iterations of before deciding where I want to go...but I can also prototype an app without having to use several different apps. this is why I love fireworks and why Im looking for a replacement. adobe is abandoning my work flo. sigh. so...does affinity design allow me to create 12 iterations of a logo with a shared element that I can update in one place? of would I have to go into every page and update that one bit of an image? another example is that I might be using a vector as a background color. Id share it to 8 pages. then when I decide I want a different color Id go to that ONE shared layer and change the color once. after that...any page that used that shared layer or item would be updated. and I could save them all out at once. thats what I do with fireworks.
  6. doh. I didnt realize effects where the "edits" of the style. lol. that works. as for image...if I take an image and select with the marque and area I want to "crop" I can control the edge of that crop by setting "feather" in fireworks to anything from 1 to 300 pixels. or more. so I can control the blend if you will of the edge of that photo. this is fantastic when you are using two images to blend together. among other things. Not even photoshop allows me to edit am image with this much control on the feather. I would also create vectors with feathered edges and overlay them to build up color. I might set them to multiply or darken or any of a number of settings to get the effect I want over the image or just between the vectors. In addition I can paste an image into a vector which might be something akin to "mask"? but the edges are supremely editable by just clicking a point and reshaping or tweaking the vector. or, I could move the image within the vector shape to reposition what shows. Sometimes I might take a feathered vector and paste inside another larger vector. in this way I could have a hard edge on one side of the vector why allowing the other side to show the full feather. again this is probably what you mean by masking? I put together a really rough sample of how I often create an images using vectors and bitmaps...its not the only kinda work I do but its a quick idea of what I mean with feathered edges and such. Hope the image explains what I was asking about--how to do in affinity.
  7. Im test driving this application and am stumped in two areas. one, that I can not remove a stroke on the edge of the vector. there is always an outline. I remove color from outline yet there it is. still visible. I applied the glass style to a test vector and could find no way to get rid of the white outline. even when I click on "stoke" and set to zero it remains. I can make it FATer but I cant lose it altogether. in addition Im used to being able to freely create a marquee with lasso tool and control gaussian blur on edges and use that marquee to crop a bitmap. the only way I could find to remove part of an image with was the erase tool and there was no way to edit that tool the way I needed it to be or to strictly control the area I wanted to cut with a faded gaussian blurred edge. If I am being confusing I can create a couple of images to show what it is I want to be able to do. its possible the lingo in this app is simply not what Im used to and maybe it can be done? In addition I wanted to move some items in the layers panel up above others but weirdly they disapeared as if they had flattened themselves into the image I tried to drag them above. very strange behavior. Thanks for your time.
  8. I really want to love this software. and it might be that its something I use for starting a new project. However, Ive been designing and creating web assets for over 15 years. for the past 10 using the now abandoned adobe fireworks. I was not able to open a layered PNG file. or rather it opened with the layers all flat and the pages all gone. Do you think you will be able to support import or opening of fireworks files which contain layers and pages. pages btw should not be confused with groups or layers. literally pages. and some parts of the assets are often shared between pages. such that when you update that part of the shared files the assets all get updated. I note that your program appears to be proprietary in that it can only save as affinity with just layers. no multiple pages. I would love to know that as your product develops that you will support the import or opening of PNG files that contain layers, groups and pages without loss of integrity. Thats exactly what Im looking for. anyway, I wish you lots of luck. and you should know that I heard about you in the adobe forums from other users. Many of us are hoping that you save our work. as eventually, if no one can do what fireworks does with layers, pages and groups and the ability to share across pages...our work will be trapped in defunct software. I cant even imagine all the time it would take me to convert every single page to a separate layered file. boggles the mind. cheers! Katherine
