I think it's a bug on the part of Publisher. Publisher 2.4.2 does not work with two merge layouts on the same page. Try placing the merge layouts on different pages. I reported it here.

You use MacOS as i can see. So, this is Windows problem.

The problem was that if I created a group and it contained both a character style and a paragraph style, and the group was closed, then I could not select the character style that was in that group through the Initial Words. But this problem was solved in the beta version.

These crashes only apply to working with styles: parent styles, grouping styles, and initial words. I worked only with styles.
