  1. I did get the message if I wanted to use the recovery file, although I'm not sure the recovery file covered my work at the time of the crash - 5 minutes. I have included the DMP file this time. For some reason the file I uploaded earlier was a text file... 51a7d5de-c087-4694-ada1-a221e2a716f3.dmp
  2. not getting a notification of a crash report, but I have included the latest crash report which I could find in that folder. and thanks for the hint for the recovery file, although I'm not sure that it actually did a recovery. It was set at 300 seconds, but I lost a lot more work than the last 5 minutes...
  3. Hi, I have been using Affinity Designer 2.4.2 since last week on my laptop running on Windows 11, and it already occurred several times that during a long session of working in Designer where I have been using a lot of smudging, Designer crashes without any warning. A lot of work is lost when this happens, because the recovery file is not close to the latest input I entered. An autosave that is adjustable to the user's needs would be nice... attachment_Log.txt
  4. I have the full suite, but wasn't actively using the others at the time it happened. As far as I can remember I didn't copy a text from somewhere else, but I can be mistaken. I had a group which consisted of a text and a blue filled rectangle serving as a back ground filler, in which I did some stuff but apart from that, I'm not sure. Can Affinity copy these values inadvertently to the settings of the text frame tool?
  5. Thanks very much, that indeed did the trickπŸ‘. But then my next question, how did I manage to change these settings, as it was something which I didn't do consciously...?
  6. HI, I'm currently trying to add a text box in photo just to add text. Previously the text box was acting as expected. But for some reason, Photo suddenly fills the box blue instead of the blue thin lines I would have expected. Now, on this forum I have read that in affinity Photo there is no possibility to change the fill of the box, only in Publisher. Could therefor somebody give me a clue of what is going on here? I have included a picture of what is happening. The text box with the date should not be with dark blue, but it happens anyway. The second box is just to show how it looks when I just dragged it in. Btw, the same thing happens with the artistic text frame. This in on Photo version 2.3.1 is going on here?
  7. settings is the same across the 3 apps. I reinstalled the xp pen drivers again, just to be sure I'm on the latest, and did a reinstall of Designer. But to no avail. the rotating button doesn't work in designer but does work in the other two...
  8. Sorry forgot to mention, I'm running windows 11 and drivers of the XP pen are up to date (from the top of my head) but I will check. But I'm a bit surprised that the rotating button works with affinity photo and publisher but not with designer.
  9. Hi I'm using a XP PEN star06c tablet for the Affinity suite. I have it configured in such a way that the rotating wheel will zoom in and out. And up until a few days ago, (some time after the update to 2.2.0) this worked as expected across all apps. But suddenly it doesn't do anything anymore in designer, but in the other two apps it does work. I see on screen that I'm applying the zoom function but without any result. Is there a setting which I inadvertently changed in designer?
  10. That I have noticed; But I don't think it shows which brush is being used for smudging for instance. Btw I assume the brushes used when clicking on the brush symbol it shows them in order when last used, ie the most recent brush on top?
  11. Hi all, I'm still on a steep learning curve with Affinity and still learning the small things which can make a big difference. Just the other day, I found somewhere in the small print in the help that clicking a layer with the CTRL key gives you a selection of that layer. For me, that was the big step to get the ball rolling when painting in Designer. Next question I have, how do I know which brush I have selected? Because I change frequently between brush tool, smudge tool and the eraser, I don't see which brush I'm using for painting-smudging-erasing. I'm just assuming that for each action I'm using the same brush. Because of my earlier experience with Procreate, where if you change between each paint-smudge-erase brush, you actually see which brush you have selected for that action, I was wondering if there is something similar in Affinity Designer/Photo?
  12. Hi all, as I'm fairly new to Affinity and I'm still on a big learning curve. Currently I have created an artboard in which I'm painting, and I have added a few layers which includes pictures to be used as references, outside the artboard tree. Every time I move the reference picture layer around the artboard, and there is a small overlap of this picture with the artboard, it will be automatically included into artboard tree. Is there a possibility to disable this?
  13. Thanks for the insight? As everything what I have done so far is done with pixel brushes, it seems to me that I first have to start in photo.
  14. Thanks for the welcome and the replies. I'll have a look if this brings me closer to get a start. I was aware of the channel options for the mask in Photo, and was looking for them in Designer, but didn't find them there. What would be the difference between Photo and Designer, because I see a lot of similarities, but not yet the biggest differences, apart from the obvious Photo is more for photo processing.πŸ˜‹ The reason I started off with Designer was to create digital paintings, in the same way I did with Procreate, but with a lot more bells and whistles to play with...
  15. Hi, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to Affinity Designer. Up until now I have been using Procreate for my digital paintings and have become quite proficient in it. Maybe a bit too proficient as I'm struggling with Designer to find a workflow to start creating. πŸ™‚ I realize Designer is not Procreate but I was hoping that someone could push me in the right direction to start enjoying the multitude of things I have available in Designer which I don't have in Procreate. So this is how I'm used to work in Procreate vs where I'm struggling with Designer. 1. I open a picture in a new painting 2. Make multiple individual unique selections on the picture which I want to use as a mask for painting and save them individually for later use. 3. I open a new layer, in which I can select one of the previously saved masks and start painting that area 4. In one layer, I can select whichever mask I need and deselect it when done with that area In the two pictures you can see a painting I did in Procreate where I have several layers, in which I could select the mask I needed. An overview on how to select these masks is also added Where I'm struggling 1. pretty much straightforward 2. I'm at the stage that I can create a selection (add, substract, intersection still need to get some experience here), but here I struggle. I'm not able yet to assign it to a mask which is not in a layer. At this stage, I have the impression that for each selection saved into a mask, I need to have new layer. I don't seem to be able to create a set of masks which I can select when I need them. 3. If I have created a mask in a layer, I probably have to copy to a new layer in order to reuse it again I guess? 4. As said, I have the impression that for each mask that I want to use, I need to create a new layer. I'm not sure if multiple masks in a layer as children would be even possibly and then just switching them on/off (sort to speak) when I need them. the other picture shows the result I have now in Designer. I hope this is somewhat an indication of my struggles to get to grip with Designer and possible the switch of concept I need to make in my head/
