How to fade out edges of image?
gumbo23 replied to gumbo23's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
I actually sussed it out by using this: https://player.vimeo.com/video/152558498/ And this: https://forum.affinity.serif.com/index.php?/topic/6968-gradually-fading-picture-to-full-transparency/ 1. I used the rectangle tool to draw over the two areas I wanted to blend. 2. I used the gradient tool to create the basic gradient. 3. Above the image is a menu with color selection. 4. I selected the color for the spine using the color picker tool, and applied that to the right side. 5. I drew the opacity to zero on the left side. 6. I adjusted the slider to get the right blend point. 7. I copied and pasted the image, then rotated it 180* for the left side of the image, to balance it out visually. -
How to fade out edges of image?
gumbo23 replied to gumbo23's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
Thanks - but could you give me some clearer, step-by-step instructions? 1. For the rectangle - how exactly do I draw it? Using the marquee tool? 2. How exactly do I apply the gradient? Which tool, where is it? 3. Are there any videos that show how to do this? I'm using Photo. Many thanks -
I am putting together a book cover, and the printing process can be hit or miss regarding where the spine breaks relative to the front and back covers. This can mean that the front or back bleeds onto the spine, or vice versa, and it looks terrible. I used to get around this by having all one color for the three cover sections, but now I want to use a back cover image. So, I need to know how to fade out the edges of the image, so that there is no danger of overlap. How can I select a section of the cover image and fade it out? I imagine I need to make a selection and use some kind of gradient tool, but I've no idea how to achieve the effect I'm looking for. Thanks

I cannot get either of these methods to work. Is this a bug? Again, if I select some boxes, then click the A text tool, a cursor starts flashing next to the first letter. Other text boxes only give me a crosshair when I do this. Triple clicking with the hand/move tool does nothing. If I switch to the A text tool and click inside the box it ignores the existing text and brings up a new flashing cursor. Any ideas on why this is happening? Are there other workarounds? At present I cannot select any text in certain text boxes.

I have various text boxes on a book cover - but only some of them allow me to highlight the text. If I select the box, then select artistic text tool, then go the text box to highlight the text, some of the boxes give me a cursor, and others just give me a crosshair. How can I get a cursor when I want one?

Affinity Publisher: Request
gumbo23 replied to LiveLifeInDesign's topic in Older Feedback & Suggestion Posts
Exactly this. I'm a writer who direct publishes using CreateSpace, and helps others get their books published this way. I build my books in Scrivener then have to go through the hell of Word. So: 1.I'd be delighted by maximum compatibility between Scrivener (also mac-focused) 2. Make headers and footers painless 3. As Word 2011 for mac has no functionality that embeds fonts, that is a must 4. The ability to flatten all layers 5. Formatting for Kindle etc If I think of more I'll add them- 7 replies

I am creating a book cover and would like to center the cover image and text elements with reference to given points (i.e. the template guides, so it aligns properly within the cut lines). Is there a way to set two points either horizontally or vertically, and center all elements based on those? Thanks

How do you change text color?
gumbo23 replied to gumbo23's topic in Pre-V2 Archive of Desktop Questions (macOS and Windows)
It does not apply it. How do I do that? The only effect from changing the colors in the manner you suggest is that no matter what colour I pick, they all come out a stale brown.
