  1. is there a dedicated undo / redo button anywhere, or are just just following Adobe and not bothering with one ?

Many apps that rely on visual editing and object creation don't have an actual button for undo/redo. That's far from being an Adobe-exclusive decision. On a different note, it's completely normal to see similar metaphors and features in AD and AI. After all a huge part of the functionality is overlapping. Besides, Adobe's not wrong on everything – I use AD for my work every day and absolutely love it and I have my grudges with Illustrator, but I can't deny that Adobe has made some good choices in that software.

  2. Hey, any update on the text columns in AD? I think this feature is useful for many Designer users and I'd love to see it added. :)

Compatibility between Publisher and Designer sounds great, I love how it works between Photo and Designer now. But wouldn't limiting the column feature (or similarly other typesetting features that are often present in graphic design software) to Publisher mean that everyone who wants to use it should buy another app?

Don't get me wrong, I understand that making software like AD requires a lot of effort and skill and I think you guys are doing an amazing job. I just think there are many use cases for this particular feature for Affinity Designer and it should be included.

  3. Me again with another minor pet peeve I have with the split view. I almost always use the Vector/Outline combination, but whenever I go back to single view mode, my choices are not saved, so when I come back to split view, I have to set up the two panels manually. It would be really useful to have some way to save split view presets for different workflows. I think this would be useful for a lot of users. Another simpler option would be to just remember the last choice the user made for these panels and default to it the next time they use split view. This could be reset upon restarting AD or it could be a toggle in the Settings. Anyway, a way to save and quickly toggle split view modes (or at least one) would be really neat. :)

  4. I've been having the same stroke width problem for a few weeks now. Glad to know that it's already reported as an issue.

I'm also glad I found this thread, because I've been struggling with the multiple object stroke width behavior for a long time. I never realized the right way to do that was the Note tool, and now it still doesn't make sense to me. I think it would be more intuitive and quicker for users to just select multiple objects and have the same stroke panel.

  5. I do a lot of linear and I often experiment with different stroke widths. I'd like to be able to edit the stroke width of multiple objects at one time. The lack of this feature in AD has always been surprising to me, since all graphic design apps I've used have something similar. To briefly describe the feature, I'd like to be able to choose a few objects and set the stroke width of all of them to 4px, regardless of their previous stroke widths or lack thereof. I think this will be useful in a wide array of scenarios.

  6. I use the Split view mode almost all the time (basically on any project that requires more than text/a few shapes on a background) but clicking and dragging the separating line can be quite slow sometimes. I think it'd be great if there was a gesture to control the position (like a three finger swipe) without having to click first.

  7. Can't wait for a rounded corners tool ;-) In the meantime this is a nice workaround: just give the object a line width (as bold as you want the curves) then use "expand stroke" and delete the inner vector outline - voila your object has rounded corners. A little drawback: The corners are build of many nodes, but they are nicely rendered, so if you don't want to edit them, it's a good solution.

That's quite brilliant, it never occurred to me to use stroke with rounded joints on a regular triangle. Thanks for that, it's gonna save me so much time. :)

  8. And while in split view, being able to right click on the vertical labeled tabs to choose which kind of view (Pixel, Vector, Outline, etc) for that side would also be a time-saver. And while we're at it, how about being able to split the view horizontally?

You can click each tab once to make it active and then choose the viewing mode from the navigator.

  9. I absolutely love the Split View mode, however I'd like to have an easier way to access this feature. Maybe there could be a button alongside the ones that let you choose view modes (outline, pixel and retina pixel preview) or a keyboard shortcut to toggle it. I use the split view almost all the time but having to turn it on from the drop down menu every time I launch Affinity is kinda annoying.

  10. I've been using AD for more of my creative tasks than I supposed I would, but there's a very persistent and weird problem that has been interfering with my workflow. I usually use Alfred to locate and open most of my work files, but it doesn't seem to be able to find any files in the Affinity Designer native format. I've already checked System preferences and Alfred's settings and I don't see a reason why some files wouldn't show up in the search. Other file types created by AD (PNG, SVG, EPS) pop up in the search and open as expected, however no documents in the proprietary format used by Affinity can be found.

Does anyone else have this issue?

  11. I spent a long time looking for this feature (or a similar one) and I was a little disappoint when I didn't find an alternative. I like the way the recolor artwork panel works in Illustrator, I use it mostly for complex multicolored work. I tend to work with more neutral colors or toned down shades that don't strain my eyes and change everything to the final colors when I'm finished. I think every designer and digital artist can benefit from a tool (or a mode of selection) that allows you to adjust color globally.

Creating illustrations (both abstract minimal ones and more complex works) in AD is a really pleasant and seamless experience and a recolor panel would only further enhance. It'd be great if you added a similar feature. :)

  12. I've been using AD for about a week now and I must say I love.

I have a couple of tools and personalization options I still miss from Illustrator and I'm hoping to see them in Affinity soon. One of these is the option to choose the background color of a PNG file upon exporting. Setting a background in any color is fast and easy while creating the content, but exporting an image with a transparent background is impossible. Or at least I haven't found the way to do it.
