Same exact thing happened to me in 2022!

Thanks for considering the issue. Below is the file if you want to take a look. The red fill was generated by the contour tool. I was just expecting a red outline around my text. My computer was straining during the episode, intermittently using 100% of the CPU. I can generate an outline using stroke, but those outlines are a bit more spindly, so I'd like to have the contour tool working normally. All this, and I was just making a silly post. I'm in Affinity Designer. Yes, it is very strange! Especially since contour worked well for me before and following the exact same set of instructions.

Thanks so much for your suggestions. Attached is a larger view screenshot. I tried selecting the text and choosing a solid line style, but nothing changed. And I've never used a dashed line, much less an irregular one. The problem seems to be coming out of the Contour Tool. But none of the contour options fix the text.

I've taken various tutorials on the contour tool and have used it successfully to outline text one time. (copy text layer, hit contour tool, play with size of contour and mitres, etc) But lately, the contour tool is a fail. The text outline comes out broken, partial, and doesn't fit the text. I can use the apply stroke technique but am wondering what happened to contour. Any thoughts appreciated.

When I've been exporting, I've exported "all spreads." Should I choose "all pages"?

Hi - I'm trying to upload a PDF that I exported from Affinity Publisher into Kindle Direct Publishing to create a paperback. The preview of the PDF looks perfect, but when uploaded, the text is between the pages, not centered on the page. I've tried to upload several times. All the fonts and images are embedded. Anybody know what's going on? Thanks - S

Thanks so much. In the interim, I opened and closed the program and now it's behaving normally. Yipes. Thanks for your interest and next time (hope it never happens again) I'll take a screen shot.

Hi - I'm trying to draw a simple small black circle using the ellipse tool. But the ellipse tool also generates a larger thick white halo centered around the black circle. The small black circle and the white halo are part of one object; I can's select the halo separately and delete it. The Help function makes no mention of an automatically generated halo. All I want is a simple circle. Anybody know how to just make a simple circle? Thanks - Stella
