I like the idea of the artboard option. However, I would like to see if there is a way to clone artboards. I don't mean just copy/paste; it would be a live update. For example, I have a T-shirt design with colored text. I was thinking of using the artboard to have multiple copies of that design, but each artboard has a predefined bg colour.
So, when i change the main design, all other artboards will also automatically update.
Is there a way to do such a thing, or how do you make sure your design works with different colors (other than manually changing it every single time)

Yes I agree. 
dds is needed. Also the the ONLY thing stopping me from switching over from photoshop.
