  1. Hey, @kenmcdso, with the otf the font rendering shows the same artifacts as before on low quality settings. EDIT: ...but settings "rasterize everything" and "text to curves" alleviates the problems! Thanks everyone for your helpful replies! Since the font was rendered trashy only on low settings I have now no problem for the print version and can set the low quality PDF to "curves". Does transforming text to curves any problems for printing, btw? Is that advised against for some reason? Kinda seems to me to be a failsafe fallback solution...but I don't really have anything like a solid foundation in DTP
  2. Thanks, Laurent, my hand hovered over that checkbox during export already. I just wasn't sure about it, lol. But that might also be a remedy, right?
  3. Thanks for your reply! Question about "And it look like you have applied a stoke outline to the text." This implies there are various ways to go about that and I can't tell you what I did other than on the graphic text menu I made changes to the contour tab. Are there other ways which are safer? The .otf version (thanks for all your efforts!) can be used freely license-wise in case I see it works better right off the bat? One thing that made me wonder and which might get relevant when editing this: sometimes I want to change several elements of the same type (say five text frames or three rectangular image frames) all at once, e.g. setting a contour line or the like. But when I have several selected the element specific menus in the toolbar disappear and are replaced with more generic ones. This makes batch editing impossible. Am I missing something?
  4. sorry forgot to add: while editing the magazine, all the fonts are rendered correctly, of course. Problems shown are only in the PDF export. Also: this mis-rendering seems to occur in the (digital) Profile only. While this is kind of a relief for the upcoming export of the print version, I would really like to be able to publish a compressed little PDF of the same magazine with correctly rendered fonts, so I am still interested in resolving this problem
  5. Hi, I am compiling a magazine, right now. 28 pages. I use the font "Magneto" as a graphical headline, white font colour, red contour. Throughout the magazine, some of the headlines are rendered like in this screenshot Most of the headlines are totally fine. It does not seem to have to do with size, because on the same doublespread another headline the same size looks right. What might be going on, here?
  6. I see! Well, as this new situation is the "smooth running" configuration I am not going to change a single thing about it for the next 3 years...🤣 Thanks a lot for your help!
  7. Aaaaand update: That seems to have done it! Using the Dreamphography brushes which are pretty large and it works like a charm! Thank you!
  8. Hi Dan, I am updating my drivers right now - seems I have neglected those for quite a while, but otoh everything was running smooth and I'll be damned if I thought that was the right moment to install new drivers, lol. Anyway, while I wait for the downloads, I actually never unchecked "windows ink" before. Not sure what that does when it's checked/unchecked. Can someone explain?
  9. Hi, when I add an image from the Stock tab from e.g. Pexels there is a pop-up showing the creator credit by name. Even though I do not deliberately close that info it disappears once I leave the layer. Is there any way to access these credits later on if I want to possibly list the credits for a photo on a page or document my usage and add info later in another context be it websites or similar environments?
  10. Hi Dan, Thank you very much for getting back to me about this - I completeley understand delays in the wake of a big update! Please find the two screenshots below. I use the German localization, but I guess you will be able to make sense of the entries. I use a XPpen artist pro 15.6, which is connected to the computer (sysinfo first post!) via HMDI and USB. Other software I use with this setup is Clip Studio Paint which of course also lags should I use giant brushes on a high dpi monster canvas, but it always stays responsive. There's other software I use with this setup like Blender or Sketchbook Pro, but CSP is closest in scope and application. In general I would say that compared to Clip Studio Paint my main problem right now is that I can't tell what is going to happen at which brush size when I use Affinity Photo. I know when I ask much of CSP's engine and can act accordingly. In Affinity I am not only like "Really? This brush sends you over the edge?!", but also once it happens, I am stuck with the unresponsive brush preview and have to close the app. thanks for looking into this!
  11. I tried that too, but it is still unusable with big brushes. It keeps the brush preview loaded at all times, UI is unresponsive and I am stuck with a sticky brush preview that does not paint. So, it is not only laggy. It is broken. Only way out each time is to close the Application. It seems there is no actual crash. If I close it, it asks me nicely if I want to save. There is something really wrong with the brush engine. Is there any way to get support to take a look at this?
  12. Thanks for the hint, I will check and report back...using an Nvidia graphics card, btw
  13. I see. Unfortunately, it was already set to low precision. I have to say, in the current state the brush engine is unusable for me. It's a pity, because I actually really liked using affinity for illustration and digital painting...😞
  14. Hi, What I tried is importing an aco file, as that is what is created in another software when exporting color palettes in adobe format. What is the difference between thos file formats and why can't I export from affinity apps in the ase format, if it imports it? My goal was to freely exchange color palettes between drawing apps and this strikes me as weirdly hard to ddo Edit: typo
  15. 1. Availability on Mac, I see 2. Photoshop swatches are not offered as possible import file formats. Hence why I said it seems to be gone @Ron P.P Yes I know the menu, there is a difference IIRC
  16. Hi, Win10 The functionality, if I am not mistaken was available in both designer and photo and is gone from both
  17. Where would I find those? When I go to "performance" in the settings I can't find the options you describe. Is that in another dialogue somewhere?
  18. Hi, I am missing following options which seem to have disappeared in V2 importing/exporting photoshop file format colour swatches exporting created colour palettes as systemwide available color swatches Why are these gone? It does not make sense to me to dumb down features in what is supposed to be a superior version of the same application
  19. Hi Win10, Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8750H CPU @ 2.20GHz, 16Gigs of Ram with that configuration I am able to easily wield even very large or complex brushes in CSP, e.g. Or in Photo V1... The brush engine in AP2 is a mess, though. A lag of several seconds with most of the brushes which is so bad that I can't even change the brush anymore. If I manage to make marks after a while I repeatedly found that newly selected brushes don't make any marks any longer. I need to start a new document and close the previous one to be able to make a brush mark with the same brush I kept selected all the time while creating a new document. So...what on earth is going on, here? This can't be the new V2 brush engine, cause for me it feels like an early alpha of a sparetime solo project. Anybody else experience this?
  20. Ah thanks. Yeah, it didn't occur to me to search for "hairline", because I just followed a reflex to solve that problem the same way I previously did
  21. No, I mean hairlines which corresponded to the top and bottom edges of my layer. But good to know about that display error though.
  22. well, by now I can't really tell as it is gone, fortunately. I had created no guidelines. Also, the hairlines were only visible when zoomed out (but reliably). Now, they're gone, so I would say that it definitely had to do with pasting a layer with a different resolution.
  23. Yes, I understand that I think re-pasting from a rescaled source document solved the hairline problem (which was my actual problem - I inquired about expanding layer to canvas size, because in previous Apps I used, whenever I encountered hairlines of layers smaller than the canvas, expanding the layers to canvas size solved that quickly and I now know there is no such functionality in AP). I re-pasted the layer after I set the source document to 300 dpi, readjusted the size of the layer and a few masks that affected this layer and now it seems to be gone. Thank you, everybody, I would not have thought to check the dpi resolution in the source image.
