  1. Yep - a whole new world! They were there as guard rails (I’m new to the iPad version). Thanks, EYE
  2. Ahh I have the undo and redo icons there on my interface no … - that is probably why. I created a shortcut to the TOC panel on the keyboard as a fix. Yes that UI needs a little more love. Cheers, EYE
  3. I give up - I’m sure I have to switch it on but where is the Affinity Publisher for iPad TOC panel? I have tried every combo but just can’t see it. Can anyone enlighten me? TIA Eye
  4. Right, So on doing some research I need to use CMYK/8 - I think and have a certain colour profile for a specific printer but use that colour profile in RGB for a soft proof of how it would print to a digital printer so I can get some idea of how it would look? Is that right? Are the other FDF/X options any better? Thanks in advance. Eye
  5. Thanks for the amazingly quick response - I was on the iPad and didn’t see the dropdown! Doh!
  6. I have seen a couple of threads on this but I am still confused. I am using Affinity Publisher (latest version as of Nov 2023) on a desktop Mac to typeset a small booklet of poems for print. The printer has told me that the ideal output for him to import for printing would be the PDFX/1a format (at the very least). I can find no such export function on Publisher - can anyone clear this up as I am using AP exclusively to commercial print and if I cannot export simply and efficiently then I guess I will have to use InDesign instead. Anyone have a fix for this or point me to resources / threads that might elucidate? Cheers, Eye
  7. Thanks again - I'm not entirely new to typsetting - I used to typeset a poetry listings mag back in th 80s - this would be a lot simpler. It is entirely the handoff and outcomes that worry me the most. Yes, I think a useful dialogue with a receptive printer or printing service would be good. I'm starting with simple pamphlets and working towards chapbooks and a full blown publication. So the print runs and what types of printing will obviously reflect that. In terms of marketing, it's such a small closed world that any kind of numbers would be very much on the low side. The convos here have clarified a lot of things. Thanks once again. E
  8. Thanks everyone for the advice - yes I would pay for a proof anyway whatever the case but a more rounded service sounds a good way to go. I know exactly the market I'm aiming for and it will not involve fashion or even making a moderate profit - it's poetry ffs! The quality of the product - both the written word and the final outcome, i.e. look of book and typesetting, are the main criteria at this stage. The networking, marketing, reviewing et al I have got covered as a very long term project. I guess I will work my way through all the Publisher tutorials to get the basics and then hire InDesign for a couple of months as well to get the general look and feel so I know what I'm talking about in the first place even before I get to the service bit. I'm in no hurry and will take my time over a finished product - I have the luxury of doing that. I'll also hunt around and ask other small presses whose publications I like, how they are doing, the local mechanics I guess. I do want something more than Word though, to typeset the thing. Thanks once again for the advice - very, very useful. E
  9. Yes, I get that but as I’m producing a simple poetry chapbook in the first instance - I will be supplying specific fonts to the printer and definitely getting a proof. Seeing as a lot of printers are now supplying InDesign templates etc I just wondered if there were any that handled affinity files in the same way. If this can be done via PDF then I’d be just as happy but same things would apply - I’d not be parting with any further money unless I had a proof first. What would be useful on here would be a list of reliable printers.
  10. That's basically it - I know local printers take InDesign files for handoff but has anyone found printers in the UK happy to work with handoof from Affinity Publisher?
  11. Thanks - I have also seen a self-publishing inDesign Book called Book Design Made Simple - 2nd Edition paperback - Raven and Collett which I have ordered from ebay 2nd hand. Apparently you can transpose some the advice into publisher. Apart from these two resources there does seem to be a hole in the market for the specifics of something like this.
  12. What I would be very interested in - is how to design a simple book of poetry + cover using publisher but especially the handoff to printers. Are there any specific tutorials out there that cover this aspect. I have looked and can't really see any?
