  1. Thanks @v_kyr That worked. I was trying to do it from the Align function not the Alignment function in the toolbar. I thought they are one and the same. Even after changing the settings in the Alignment function the Align function doesn't respect the 'Relative to first' behaviour. Is this normal or is this a bug?
  2. Hi! I need help understanding how to align two or more objects or frames. More precisely, when you have 2 objects (or frames) — let's call them A and B — how to align their horizontal centers so that object A moves and gets aligned to object B, while object B stays in place. So far, no matter which of the two objects I select first, they align in what seems a very random way (either A aligns to B or B to A, without me being able to figure out the logic behind it). I hope this makes sense. Basically I'd like to have more control over this and understand what I have to do to align object A to B or the other way around, depending on each particular situation. Thanks!
  3. Hi! I need help understanding how resizing table columns or rows works. When I select one or multiple columns / rows and place the cursor over the table header (? for lack of a better name) where it says A, B, C, etc. a double headed arrow appears. When dragging the double headed arrow, either left or right, one of 3 things happen: 1. The selected columns/rows get resized 2. Extra columns/rows are being added 3. Nothing happens So what's the logic behind this? When does one action happens over the other? It seems so random... I really need help understanding this. Thanks!
  4. Thanks! I managed rotate the gradient outside of the table. But how do I save it to use it rotated inside the table as a fill?
  5. Hi, I created a gradient and saved it in swatches but I need to apply this gradient vertically (from row 1 to row 10) as a table fill. Here's an example... given a gradient (from left to right: yellow - green)... how do I apply this gradient to a table column so that the first row of the column would be yellow and the last row of the column green? Basically that would mean rotating the gradient at 90º. I know how to apply the gradient to a row. I just don't know how to rotate it at 90º. Thanks!
  6. Hi, Is there a way to add editable fields in Publisher and create an interactive PDF that can be filled in later on? Thanks!
  7. @Old Bruce Thank you! So I create a text frame on each of the two (facing) master pages I have. And linked them in between. But I must be doing something wrong because the objects still aren't inside the margins when I add a new (single) page in the middle of the document. I have text frames and tables (mostly) on the already existing pages of the book.
  8. I'm creating a book, so I set up a document with facing pages. The size of the inner and outer margins are different. When I insert a new page in the middle of the book, the contents of all the pages that follow it stay where they were relative to the edge of the page. This means that they get outside the left or right margins. I though making objects float with the margins was done within the Studio >> Pinning, but either I don't use the right settings, I'm missing something or this has nothing to do with pinning. Any ideas? Thanks!
  9. Is it possible to make a text style available application wide (the same way you can add an application color palette in swatches)? I know you can import text styles from another document, but for some reason the text style gets changed in the process (ie. font size 9.5 becomes 7.1 and stays that way even after resetting the formatting).
  10. Thanks, @Callum. Yes, I know that I can separate cells, but this isn't very helpful when you realize you need to make two cells out of one in the middle of the table. I find myself starting the table again every time a design change like this is needed, and this is very time consuming. We designers don't have every detail figured out right from the get go, or at least I don't, so the feature to split cells, would be a really great addition. Fingers crossed the split cell feature will be added in the next update
  11. @BofG So whichever of the 5 methods (Nearest neighbour, Bilinear, Bucubic, Lanczos 3 (separable) and Lanczos 3 (non-separable)) I choose, whether I resize the spread larger or smaller, the result is the same?
  12. Thanks, @Pšenda, but I've already read these threads and they are both about resizing images. My question is what's the best resampling method for simple text (no images) so the colors of the text and lines look crystal clear when printed.
  13. I have a document that's mostly colorful text and fine lines. When changing page size from Letter to A4 (which is taller but narrower) and from A4 to A5 (which is smaller), which resampling methods out of the 5 (Nearest neighbour, Bilinear, Bucubic, Lanczos 3 (separable) and Lanczos 3 (non-separable)) should I use for best results at the time of printing the document? I'm not interested in which one is faster, produces a smaller file size or the mathematical calculations behind each method. What I want to know is simply which resampling method produces the best results visually in print. Thanks!
  14. @loukash Thanks for the explanation. I wrongly assumed the resolution of 612 × 792 in Preview were pixels. So then my PDF is actually 2550 px x 3300 px and should print beautifully, right?
  15. I have a file in Letter size at 300 DPI. When I export it using preset 'PDF (for print)' and DPI: 300, the resulting PDF has a resolution of 612 px × 792 px. This is letter size at 72 DPI, not 300 DPI. To my knowledge, a PDF at 300 DPI should be 2550 px x 3300 px. So what am I doing wrong? How can I export PDFs at 300 DPI and a resolution of 2550 px x 3300 px? Thanks!
  16. Hi, I was wondering if it's possible to override one aspect of all text styles in a document from one master text style or something similar? I tried to create a master style and then base the other text styles on it, but I must be missing something because nothing happens when I change the vertical scale (which is what I want it to do) from character > position & transform in the master style.
  17. @kaakoo you are right, it seems to maintain aspect ration when changing from A4>A5. But things get stretched when changing from letter to A4 or from letter to half letter (which is not even a preset and custom dimensions need to be introduced).
  18. @carl123 I thought so too, but I must be missing something because every time I change from letter size to A4, for example, all text and images I place inside table cells get elongated. Is there a resample setting or some other setting that prevents text and images from getting stretched vertically?
  19. Thanks, Garry. I think the assets idea will come in really handy. To answer your question, I design printables, so everything I design I then transform and save into various page sizes.
  20. Sorry, just realized I published this in the 'Feedback for Affinity Designer on Desktop' forum. Can a moderator move it to the 'Feedback for Affinity Publisher on Desktop' forum? Thanks!
  21. Hi, I work a lot with tables and I find myself missing quite a few features: The option to evenly distribute rows / columns for non-adjacent rows / columns. Right now evenly distributing row heights and column widths only works for adjacent columns. When several non-adjacent columns are selected the evenly distribute rows / columns is grayed out (when right clicked on the selection). Drag + drop columns and rows (+ all their styling) to a different position inside the same table Saving individual row and column styles, not only table styles Creating diagonal lines inside a cell Split cell inside the same row / column. The separate cells option is not enough. I'd love to see these implemented in the near future. They would make Publisher so much better and nicer to work with and infinitely improve workflow with tables.
  22. Unfortunately, the 'sort ascending/descending' isn't useful at all to me as I work with mostly empty tables to which I apply a lot of styling... I really hope to see the drag + drop feature implemented in the future though...
