  1. I have completed a 100 page poetry book, many with complimentary photographs that I have taken. Layout is landscape, 9" wide by 7" high. I want to order an initial order of 100 hard cover full color copies of excellent quality. If they sell quickly, then I will be ordering in quantities of 500 or 1,000/printing session. My best friend has a gallery and is going to market it for me - he is now releasing his 14 book and had over $200K of preorders - thus my book must be of excellent print quality. I need your guidance on finding a print shop that you have used for a like type of book. Book is ready NOW to be sent to the printer and I want it printed in time for the holiday season. Guidance is appreciated as I have never done anything like this in the past. Jack
  2. I was hoping to find someone quickly to do the review of my ,afoul file before I send it to the printer. Did not think such a person would be so difficult to find.
  3. I have finished my first book on Affinity Publisher. It is a book of poetry with some photos mated to the appropriate poem. 6"h X 12"W, B&W Book Including cover. As this is my first book, and of course first in Affinity, I would like to find someone that is excellent at Proofing the 100 page book being sure it is ready for the printers press, not as an eBook. Suggestions welcome to someone you have actually used and were completely satisfied with. Must be able to get it done this week, 10-4-2020.
  4. Can I have more than one TOC? Would I just click on the "Insert" icon on the TOC tab? (to my thinking Insert mean to put within - I'd want to Create a new one if that is possible.) AHHH .... Just found this with the help - missed it earlier: " The document can have as many TOCs as required, but typically a single TOC at the start of your publication is used." I would want to put it at the back/end of the book.
  5. Finishing creating a book of my poems complimented with opposing pages of a photo that I feel expresses the poem I wrote. All pages of poems are now constructed. I have the titles of the poems now in the TOC. What I want is to have each photo listed in a "List of Image Titles" of some sort at the back of the book. Ideally, I do not want the name of the photo on the page that the photo is displayed, but only in the back of the book. This is a book, not an ebook that I have been working on, about 100 pages total now and I'm done except for "wrapping it up". Any ideas?
  6. This release of publisher 1.8.4 is full of bugs that cumulatively degrade the code. It took 2.5 weeks of use to then became inoperable. After a day of no reply from Tech Support, I just used Clean My Mac to get rid of the buggy initial install, downloaded same version, installed and now all works as it did initially, but I no longer have the confidence in it I had, not in the code or the support. Mark up one day of work that needed to be done as completely lost on this book due to buggy code. jb
  7. I tried the MS Mouse with dongle - locked on the axis but the roller feature to scroll vertically is "sticky". I'm must dealing with it for now.
  8. I am also putting my first book of poems together. I've learned a lot and about 2.5 weeks ago started with Affinity Publisher. Have about 100 pages 9" high x 12" wide now and that is my limit. Mixture of 75% poetry and 25% my photos that support the theme in a specific poem. Until this morning I was very impressed with Aff. Pub. but now I've got a mess - loosing a 1/2 day so far as their software 1.8.4, latest has several bugs in it. You may want to follow my post that I put up a couple of hours ago. I developed software before I retired so I know the industry. I'm getting the impression that support comes from the USERS of the software and not Affinity. Have you decided to do hardcover or paperback? To do offset printing I'm finding prices high and they want 1,000 min. run but quality is excellent. Digital is not as good of quality but runs can be much less BUT cost per book is much higher. It was over the weekend that I was putting the TOC and page numbers AND that is when all of the problems started with tools locking up, pull down menu's not responding. links to photo in an external folder being dropped on shut down and reopen, etc. Jack

  10. I sent messages to Affinity on FaceBook - horrible way to support it's customers - and need a faster reply the problems has HALTED my work! Here is what I sent - ideas welcome - I'm thinking I'll have to uninstall and download again and hope it solves BUT I don't want to loose the Styles in fonts, etc that I have made or my TOC setup. On a Mac Pro latest Catalina OS. Here is the situation: Big problem has occurred this morning in Publisher that I did not have before. Doing my first book, poetry and a few photographs. About 80 pages. All has worked great until yesterday. I found that when I quit Publisher than logged back in the link to the folder on my desktop was lost and I had to relink it again. This happened 3 times during the day. Now, this morning I log in to continue to work and I no longer get the pull downs to change Font sizes!! I've shut down, rebooted 3 times and still can't get access. I have to go to the tabs for Top bar, Text, Size, Smaller and drop down by one size at a time to reduce 2 sizes taking two iterations of this. Last, the pages panel is now left on the screen when I reduced the program to the tool bar to work on another project!! This is a bit concerting! As a retired developer of software on the Cray/SGI platform I'm thinking to "uninstall" and re-install the software but want to be sure my key will still be valid and see if that fixes it. Will I loose the "Styles" I have set up if I do that? I need an answer ASAP. ????? With the Pages/TOC etc panel sitting on the desktop and not part of the Publisher domain, I can now access the pull down font sizes dialog!!! And Window, Merge All Windows does not function. I've got panels now scattered all over my 34" monitor! 1.8.4 version I've wasted over 1.5 hours trying to figure out what is going on! Up to this point I have like the software and purchased it BUT today is quite concerning! I have a second book to write when I finish with this one. You folks need a far better method of support than Facebook!! I can't work on my book, have a deadline and no way to contact you????? How about an email support system? Unless I'm sitting here with the sites page open I have NO idea that you are replying to my need for help with your product. At least with software my mailbox beeps when mail comes in. 8-24-2020 at 1PM EST USA - I just tried to restore from Time Machine on Mac and the scattered panels is still being displayed and no ability to disable "Unlink Panels" and Merge them. So I'm making no progress at all on my own.
  11. I want to send my poetry book with some photos in it to two types of friends that are helping me with proofing: 1. Encrypt with a password the Affinity Publisher file to prevent ANYONE from opening the PDF file without the password BUT let them be able to edit it and save as a NEW doc with the same encryption password. I have one person that is a wizard at catching details and want to let her be able to edit it and then save it again encrypted back to me where I am able to edit it! 2. Encrypt with a password the Affinity Publisher file BUT PREVENT ANY EDITING OF THE FILE OR EVEN "COPY" AND "PASTE" OF THE PDF FILE CONTENTS into Word, etc. Ideally, this can be done with Freeware or something that is not subscription and reasonable in cost - certainly less than $50.00.

  13. I've got over 80 Spreads, 2 pages horizontal. Pages are mix of text and photos (only about 25%). Want to have the software create a TOC from my poem titles. At the top of Each Poem/Text frame is the title in size 16 font only and bold. Clicking on the two "Poetry" tabs in the TOC builder dialog, does nothing Can I have the software search each page looking for a poem Title, always in 16 size font, and they built the TOC for me AND will it update the page number if I change the order of the pages - assume "Update TOC" icon does that.
  14. May I suggest, Lock the "spread" to the users chosen position, allow pressing down on the space bar to move the spread, remove to lock again. Press escape to clear the lock.
  15. Very kind of you! Will be appreciated by others I am sure. I think many that enter the last stages of their lives will wish to provide some record of there having been here, as I do. Thus a market one may not be considering in the marketing of your product.
  16. I have a degenerative neuromuscular disease, so the tremors are just a part of it. It seems to me as a past software developer on the SGI/Cray Super Computers it would be an easy feature to add for "Handicapped" folks and certainly beneficial to those like myself. Very impressed with your Publisher and after I get this first of two books done, by September, I'll take a look at Photo.
  17. I have two facing pages of poetry. I want to split one poem between the two pages of the spread. I want to be the one to define where that end of frame one text ends on the left page and the start of the new text on the right page occurs. Is this possible? I have not been able to find a way.
  18. Of course. I just hope that my friends printer will take the Affinity. I will post when I find out IF they do take it. If not, then I will post here asking for print shops that do take Affinity.
  19. Great idea Gary! I have no idea how well know this publishing tool is or the size of the user community, but I will gladly add who I find can take the Affinity Publisher data set for printing. I hope to speak with the company my friend uses for all of his photography books early this week. However he has been using Adobe for years for all of his 12 photography books and has not need to change. As an ex-software developer on the SGI and Cray platforms, I am totally against "subscription" software - it is only good for the developer and leaves the user in a perpetual loop of supporting them. If you wish to escape, full loss of the software is gone to you.
  20. Building a poetry/photo book. I have severe tremors. Now, when I have a spread on the black "workspace" using the Mac Mouse, my spread is constantly moved from side to side on the black "workspace" and I have to realign the spread back into the center of the "workspace". Is there a way to "lock down" the spread in the workspace to stop this problem caused by my tremors?
  21. My first "Book" of poetry - in trial stage right now but really impressed! Question: I have put together 46 pages of 23 double page spreads. Poems and some photos supporting the message in the writings. What I want to do is RE-ARRANGE the order of the spreads, say move the spread that contains pages 25 and 26 to be in the position of where page 5 and 6 are currently. I want to do this dynamically - grab and move in the queue if possible, but any way is better than no way. I've watched most of the Tutorials but do not see this shown as being possible. Is it possible to do? --------------------------- Answer: I figured out that if I press "Command" key and the Spread together, I can dynamically move the Spread to any position in the queue! Just need to check with the printing company early next week to be sure they can accept books from Affinity. If they do, time to get out my credit card!
