A PSD is a Photoshop Document. As such, it is an image format. So, it should be treated the same as the other image file types that you mentioned. PDFs should also be handled the same way in order to try to be on par with InDesign, in addition to making Publisher as flexible as possible. Incidentally, InDesign has been able to handle PSDs in exactly the same way as other images for what feels to me like about 20 years. So, the only reason I can think of as to why Serif would inhibit the handling of PSDs in Publisher is to dissuade users from using Photoshop, and use Affinity Photo instead. If that is the case it is a terrible move, in my opinion, as I believe the only way to upstage InDesign will be to do everything that it is able to do, and more. Not less and/or not as easily and quickly.

In Publisher, I have two vector items grouped together. Each has different colour specs. If I select that group using the Move Tool, the Colour panel will (strangely) display the colour of one of those items as if the same colour applies to both. For example, this group includes items with these colours: Item 1 - vector with a stroke - stroke colour: C6 M5 Y5 K0 Item 2 - vector as knockout (no colour) - stroke/fill colours: C0 M0 Y0 K0 If I select the grouping of these two items, the Colour palette says: C 6 M 5 Y 5 K 0 Instead of the specs above, the Colour palette should be displaying dashes, like this... C -- M -- Y -- K -- ...otherwise, confusion ensues, and time is wasted trying to determine whether multiple objects have had the same colour erroneously applied to all of them, or whether the problem is only the Colour palette info and nothing more. But wait, it gets worse. I just clicked the aforementioned grouping a second time, and the Colour palette now says... C 72 M 68 Y 67 K 88 ...even though I did not change anything, anywhere in the document. Furthermore, if I Ungroup the group, and then click both items individually, the first one I click will continue to incorrectly display the same colour noted above (72, 68, 67, 88). But then, if I select the other item, its correct colour will suddenly display. And then... if I go back to the second item and click it, its colour will finally — finally — display correctly. Having gone through this tedious, time-wasting exercise, I am sincerely wondering how much testing was done internally by Serif before putting this software up for sale for customers such as myself to buy. I feel as though *I* am the one doing the testing here. Time to move on and try to get some work done. Side note: Due to the type of confusion with the Colour palette functionality (as described above), this post was edited from one that described the Colour palette problem in a different way.

Many of the keyboard shortcuts that I am encountering in Publisher, Designer, and Photo are different than the standard keystrokes which were established by leading software titles previously. To address this productivity-hampering discrepancy, one must go to Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts. There, we are faced with a huge list of shortcuts which we must scroll through in order to find the one that we wish to change. Instead of having to go through this time consuming scrolling routine, there should be a search field specifically for shortcuts. This would enable us to stay more focussed on our work, and make the transition to Serif's software less of a headache.

I currently have a PSD placed as a link in AP. I have scaled the PSD. However, as noted by others, there is no "info" window which will tell me the current percentage that the image has been scaled to. This is a feature that the industry has been relying upon with other software for decades. Is this very basic feature available in AP at a glance? If not, can we please make it available?

Add Flatten to right-click menu
photoshop1.0 replied to photoshop1.0's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Serious image makers need Flatten. That is why Flatten is a right-click item in Photoshop. Having to fuss with assigning shortcuts for functions which should already be present is not the solution that dedicated users need. -
This problem is only occurring in AP for me. My mouse is perfectly fine (it is a wired mouse which does not require a battery, incidentally). User Carl123 has provided a link to another user's complaint about this issue, which dates back to March of this year. I am surprised that an update has not been released which might have solved this problem.

When I click a Macro in the Library palette (to have the Macro affect a raster layer), the Macro typically does not activate unless I click it twice, three times, or even four times. I have proven this is occurring by testing a couple of different Macros. Both require me to click them more than once most of the time in order to get them to work. This is occurring on a simple 100x100px RGB file. This multiple-clicking routine becomes incredibly frustrating when one is trying to get production work accomplished. My system: AP 1.8.3 Mac OS X Catalina 10.15.5

If I use Unsharp Mask on a raster layer, and adjust the filter's settings while keeping an eye on the level of sharpness using the filter's preview, the preview of the sharpness does not resemble the actual sharpness that will result after I hit "Apply". After hitting "Apply", the image ends up being extremely oversharpened — wildly sharper than what was shown in the filter's preview. I have proven that this is actually happening by repeating exactly the same steps several times on a simple 100x100px RGB image. Is this beyond frustrating? You bet. My system: AP 1.8.3 Mac OSX Catalina 10.15.5

Yes, of course, And, I certainly would have done that, had I not been trying to use a longstanding industry standard function which is invariably assigned by most other software to keys that physically exist on one's keyboard (the Page Up and Page Down keys). Publisher is the first desktop publishing or word processing software, that I have encountered, which requires me to waste time fussing with Preferences just to get the Page Up and Page Down keys to work as expected.

Thank you. That helps. However, this brings me back to one of my points, which is that the key commands are buried (there is no search function to unearth those that you cannot see, from what I can tell). So, unless I am missing something, one has to manually look through all the key commands until the right one is found. A pain. Serif: let's please get a search function in place for this (if one is not there already for key commands).

Show/set size of selection
photoshop1.0 replied to osi's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
Understood. However, not displaying Width and Height in an Info panel does not make sense. Especially considering that there are fields shown in the Info panel for both of those dimensions, with the fields (bizarrely) displaying dashes instead of the actual width and height of the selected layer. -
Even stranger is that those shortcuts are not shown in my copy of Publisher 1.8.3. But, even if they were visible, adding ctrl+ still would not make any sense. Hopefully, Serif is watching these forums and will consider switching to the industry standard (allowing Page Up and Page Down keys to work as they were intended).

I'll be honest: the fact that standard Page Up & Page Down keys do not work in Publisher just stinks. Every single app that I have ever used knows what to do with those keys. But not Publisher. I have gone into Publisher's Preferences, and the Key Commands section appears to be extremely limited. If there is a way to assign Page Up and Page Down keys it is not self-evident (another pitfall). What I am seeing are a grand total of 8 commands which can be customized. One of them is "Quit", another is for the "About..." window. Furthermore, the Key Commands section does not have a search function within it (which one might expect would unearth hidden key commands that are not initially visible). I'm sorry, but this lack of basic functionality — that even free Adobe Reader has — is shocking.

Show/set size of selection
photoshop1.0 replied to osi's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
I am very surprised to see that the dimensions of a selection are not shown in the Info panel. I am referring to when you are using the Move tool (V), and click a layer to select it. When you do this, a bounding box with nodes appears around the layer, enabling you to scale it, etc.. But, the Info panel only displays dashes beside "W:" and "H:" (as if AP cannot interpret the object's size). This is confusing. Since AP automatically displays a bounding box (which clearly would have a "Width" and "Height" assigned to it), its width and height should be shown in the Info panel. Having to reference a separate panel (i.e. Transform panel) slows down workflow. Please, let's get width and height displaying as expected in the Info panel. -
Window resizing when zooming
photoshop1.0 replied to Roberto Costa's topic in Feedback for Affinity Photo V1 on Desktop
I am using AP 1.8.3, and it appears that the "zoom resizes windows" feature is still not present. If that is the case, I would suggest that this is a significant oversight in terms of production speed and overall enjoyment-of-use. -
Is that literally the only way that we can edit an individual photo which is linked within Publisher? We have to send the entire document to Photo? I have not had a chance to experiment with editing a linked PSD in Photo (not Photoshop) yet, but I am hoping there is a better way. At the very least, I am hoping we can use the 4-step process that I mentioned above until Serif builds in a right-click menu solution (or equivalent 1-click manoeuvre).

I was not referring to editing. I said, "This copying-and-pasting from Publisher to Photoshop is essential in my web design work, as it allows me to quickly grab an image from InDesign without having to open the original PSD and then manually recreate the same cropping that I already did in InDesign." This may not be an essential technique for everyone's workflow, however it has proven to be a huge time saver in certain instances where re-cropping an image for the web is not necessary, and having to do so would be a waste of valuable time.
