There should be a prompt if you accidentally switch from refining a mask/selection to anything else.
Currently it just discards any work you haven't applied. Super annoying when you're working on a pretty crazy mask/selection, forget to apply, switch back, lose 30 minutes of work.
And if it's a "you're doing it wrong", it's bad ui/ux to have to Apply every other 5 minutes to "save", especially cause it takes a bit to apply. "apply" to not lose your work, and going back to refining is an additional process that breaks your flow.
