That is good to know. But it requires a manual intervention. The user has to check themselves, something easily avoidable with a small change to the process. (And yes, I am aware that small process changes can be a lot of work in code.)
So currently there are two possibilities:
1. Either the app always shows news on startup. Subsequently the user has to scan the news manually to see if there is anything news in there. And then close the window. As most days do not bring new news items, this is a waste of time.
2. Prevent the app from showing news ons startup. Now a user is either missing out or has to regularly manually open the news window. This is again a waste of time and cognitive budget.
What I propose is a third option, a hybrid. Here it is possible to prevent the same news from showing up, until there is actually something new, at which point the news window popups again (with new and old items).
