Hello. I use a tutorial file from an older Affinity Designer version from 2015 (mac). I can open it. But if i add two divided object parts together Affinity Designer freezes. The newest 6. version freezes completely (i have to restart the programm). In the newest Beta Version 7. the document is freezing. I cant move, select or edit layers anymore. I have to close the document and open it again. If i create a new document and draw 2 shapes and divide them and press then add all worked fine. I have attached the file which causes the problem. When exporting GIS data, a frequent task is to clean up compound path lakes and islands. Keep in mind that ESRI ArcMap exports in Adobe Illustrator 8 format, so it's not PDF compatible. Thus, Affinity Designer can't open it. Add to the fun, Illustrator still has a limit of 32,000 anchor points per object. So when it opens up an .ai file, it splits objects up into pieces. I'd like to use Affinity Designer to Union those shapes together. ---> But here's the problem: Affinity Designer doesn't Union together shapes that are coincident along the same lines. If two shapes abut along a single line and share anchor points with the exact same x/y location, Affinity Designer will "union" the shapes into a "Curve" but the actual shape is actually TWO shapes. If you apply a stroke to the "curve" the shared line will have a stroke, instead of being unioned fill. Of course, if you move one of the shapes so there's overlap, the Union function works and the shared line goes away and becomes filled space. But if you have hundreds of Lakes/objects to do, this just isn't feasible. So, is Affinity aware that coincident shapes aren't working in their boolean tools? Attached file is a lake with a piece in the south east area that needs to be Union'ed to the main lake area. Thanks, .curt Union Fail Sample.afdesign
I have a file with two overlapping shapes, one rotated +90 degrees and the other -90 degrees. If I perform an add operation there is a joining line. However, if I rotate both shapes -90 degrees releative to their previous position (clockwise in the software) so that they become 0 degrees and 180 degrees respectively, the add operation performs as expected.
