Jilli
Has anyone resolved the issue of AP being very very slow? Up to 5 mins to open a Olympus raw file and further processing requiring minutes for each step. The spinning coloured ball is mesmerising. All other software held hostage. Using iMac High Sierra v10.13.6.
Staff Chris B Posted October 15, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 15, 2019 Hi Jilli, welcome to the Affinity Forums. This is not normal or typical behaviour. Can you provide us with the specs and year of your Mac? It may be worth checking to see if the app runs better without Metal compute. Please go to Preferences > Performance and see if it is enabled. If it is, disable it. If it isn't, try enabling it. You can also try using OpenGL. Let me know how you get on. Jilli
Hi Chris B, many thanks for the reply. iMac specs - attached screen shot. App preferences showed 'Enable Metal Computer acceleration' as ticked and 'Display' not active. When I unticked 'Enable Metal Computer Acceleration', 'Display' showed active 'Metal'. App performed much better but slowed down after opening 4 Olympus raw files. Haven't tried 'OpenGL' yet. How many Raw files should one open at one time to work on? Cheers, Jilli. Staff Chris B Posted October 16, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 16, 2019 Hey Jilli, Try OpenGL. Some users report turning off Metal Compute helps but OpenGL helps further. It's hard to say how many raw files one can open at a time. Some people would open one and focus on editing that but it isn't unusual for some people to open a few or more and work on them at once. Jilli
Open GL seems to have resolved the issue. Speed for opening RAW files and editing is smooth now. I was on then point of ditching Affinity. Chris B
