How to Limit Adjustment Layers to one layer that has a mask?

Recommended Posts

I have a "Paper image" layer that has a mask. I would like to apply an adjustment layer to the Paper image, and have the layer only effect that one layer.

Here are my layers:

In this thread, it states the following:

If you place an adjustment (or live filter) layer on top of all the layers in the Layers panel, it will affect the whole layer stack (or the layers below it if it's located in the middle of the layer stack). If you want to affect only one layer, drag the adjustment (or live filter) layer over the thumbnail of the layer you want to affect to nest it there. This way it will only affect that specific layer.

When I do this, the adjustment layer only affects the mask. In fact, the Paper Image disappears and is no longer visible in the documet:

How can I make it so the adjustment layer only affects the Paper Image without making the Paper image from disappearing? Obviously, in doing this, the adjustment layer will effect the mask connected to Paper Image, which is fine, I just don’t want the Paper Image to disappear.

@big smile: You nested the pixel layer within the adjustment. The instructions told you to nest the adjustment within the pixel layer. E.g., you want something that ends up looking like this:
