IPad Storage issue

Recommended Posts

I am using Affinity Photo 1.7.2 on a 1Tb iPad Pro (2019), running iPadOS 13.2 Beta.  The issue that I am having is that the used storage space for Affinity.  It is quickly approaching the limit of the device.  I am using Affinity to review and work on my photo catalog.  I currently have ~190Gb of RAW photos loaded on the device in “On my iPad”.  The storage usage of Affinity has grown with usage to over 630Gb.  There does not seem to be a way to reduce that or to remove “recently deleted” images and files from the iPad - they are apparently linked to Affinity.  It looks like I may have to delete the app, to break that link and clear up unused images - space.  Has anyone had this issue?

As iPadOS adds external storage, this may allow you to transfer your files.  Adds extra cost and device to manage; however, it is improvement.

Some people have reported similar usage records on devices that do not physically possess that amount of recorded storage. Based on posts here I would treat the used space reported by iOs as being inaccurate. I also use a wd wireless pro hdd 2TB which connects wirelessly at 5GHz (no network required) and use it as external storage. IPadOS may offer better solutions re attaching hdd's.

I was able to partially resolve the issue by offloading the application.  That broke the linkage to image files that I had examined/worked on but then deleted.  The offload kept the working documents so the usage dropped from nearly 700Gb to 8Gb, and the files that were in recently deleted vanished.  Not sure if this is an Affinity issue or an iPadOs issue, but I would like to see someone address and fix the problem.  Offloading the app is not a viable working solution.  I will look into wireless external drives for work in the field.

I don’t know if you will need a wireless external drive.  Dependent on iPad model, many external docks on market can manage external storage options.  YouTube search has videos that may assist you in discovering the right drive,  Good luck.
