michel_olives
Hi, Affinity Designer is very slow on Mac OS 10.15. (I use a 2016 MacBook Pro) The launch is fast, but it takes more than one minute for the interface to display. Is this slowness specific to me? Otherwise, do you plan to release an update soon? Staff Dan C Posted October 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 11, 2019 Hi michel_olives, Welcome to the forums 4 hours ago, michel_olives said: Is this slowness specific to me? Otherwise, do you plan to release an update soon? We haven't had other such reports of this issue so I suspect it may be specific to your machine. Can you please open Affinity > Preferences > Performance and provide a screenshot of your settings here? Resetting your app back to it's default settings may help here, you can do this by holding down the CTRL key while launching the app. When the Clear User Data window appears, click Select All and then Clear. The app will now open. Be aware that resetting your app back to its default settings will lose any custom settings such as keyboard shortcuts and brushes etc. To backup such settings before resetting the app, please watch our Affinity - Exporting User Settings and Keyboard Shortcuts video. https://player.vimeo.com/video/189596577/ Quote Please note - I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time. michel_olives
Thanks, Dan for your fast answer. As a newbie with Affinity Designer, I didn't make any personal changes in the Preferences as you can see on the screen capture attached. By the way, it also took me more than one minute to quit the app ... Best regards,
Staff Dan C Posted October 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 11, 2019 No problem at all, thanks for your screenshot. Can you please try turning Metal Hardware Acceleration (the last checkbox in this dialog) off and restart the app as prompted - does this resolve the slow loading/closing for you? michel_olives
Dan, I unchecked the Medal Hardware Acceleration, to no avail. Quitting the app was even longer. Don't you think I should uninstall/install the app ?
Staff Dan C Posted October 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted October 11, 2019 Thanks for trying that and I'm sorry to hear this. Uninstalling the app will likely not change much here, have you tried the reset procedure? michel_olives
Dan, not getting any improvements, I chose the radical method: I reset my Mac and reinstalled everything. Affinity Designer now works great. Thank you for your help. Best regards. Dan C
