MAC OS Catalina upgrade and Affinity Apps not opening

Recommended Posts

Adobe also warns about installing OS Catalina, because there are major compatibility issues with applications, especially graphics.

I installed MAC OS 10.15 and now I cannot open any of my Affinity Apps (Photo, Designer, Publisher). When I click on the app logo it starts booting and freezes. Is there a way about this? Thank you!

Hi Carmosm,

Welcome to the forums :)

We have had a few reports of this.

Please could you try uninstalling and reinstalling the apps?

Due to other obligations I just came back to my computer. I learned that Catalina was distributed as Beta earlier this year, maybe since last year, so that those compatibility issues should not be there. (1) Photoshop Elements 14, which didn't work yesterday, today is booting fine. (2) Affinity Photo starts booting then nothing happens. On right click the option Force Quit appears.

Epson scanner wasn't working either and a visit to Epson website solved it by downloading 64 bit version of the drivers.

Is there a way to see Affinity Photo booting to pinpoint where it stalls, maybe a new security check or a 32 bit file? This is just an idea. Other people having the same problem?

I've been running Catalina Beta since the day it was released to developers in June. I've never had a problem running any of Affinity programs at all.

So far, zero problems.  Sidecar has allowed me to forgo replacing a driverless Wacom Tablet, with my iPad Pro. The Apple Pencil, iPad Pro, Sidecar and Affinity Photo, better than canned beer.

OH NO! I was just using Affinity Photo, ran the update on my Mac to 10.15.4 and now all the tools are un-selectable!!! OMG Apple does it again, "Download the latest hardware outdate now!"
I've tried restarting the computer and deleting and reinstalling Affinity Photo on my Mac. What a pain in the butt. I also got a notification that the new Wacom tablet I just purchased is using a legacy something or other and that I'll have to contact the developer. Oh my frolicking goodness!

Can anyone help?

I have tried no less than 16 times to install Affinity Photo because this NEW MacBook Pro (2020) running Catalina (it CAME with it, NOT my choice) will NOT let me install this program. The only options i have for installing things is either save file (I  tried this ONCE) or DiskImageMounter which was fine for firefox and an android transfer program. None of my CS5 programs work cuz 32 v. 64 bit, so I'm trying to find subs cuz I'm NOT buying into that extortionist rental program of Adobe's, ESPECIALLY since i paid FULL price for the CS5 suit back in 2010. ANybody? ANybody? What's a work around? Even the Affinity guys couldn't help. They say no one else has had this problem "TODAY. " but i see HERE that SEVERAL people had problems various YESTERDAYS.

The problem was solved a few weeks after my post. This dates from the first time Catalina was launched. Either Apple or Affinity fixed it, since I saw many posts on the problem. Since then I've had no problems. I bought Affinity Photo after having cooperated with the Beta version some years ago, directly from Affinity. By the way, I also have had big problems with Adobe's suites. I used Photoshop since 1992. Then over the years I bought into their suites and worked with Dreamweaver, InDesign, Lightroom, and so on, until 2005 or so (I forget) when they came out with their monthly plans and I couldn't open the programs on my computer once I migrated to a new iMac. I am an Affinity fan now: AF Photo, Designer, Publisher. By the way, I lost all my Dreamweaver files… As for your problem, I think the best way is to go to Apple's forums.
