Desktop and iPad file compatibility

Recommended Posts

I was trying to save time and use Designer on my iMac yesterday and after hours of trying to resize a large file, I decided that it was going much faster on my iPad.

I tried to open the file that I used on the desktop yesterday saved in Dropbox) today on my iPad. When I select import file from cloud and go to the file and tap on it to open the file the app, Affinity Designer, on my iPad crashes.

Are the two software packages not compatible? That would be very disappointing to have to use Illustrator to open the desktop file to save it as a different file so I can open it on my iPad.

I'm trying very hard to give Affinity products a go so I can drop Adobe...so far...not going great. That said, I'm willing to accept culpability. Please advise.

Yes they are compatible, in fact files for publisher, photo and designer use an identical format and will open in any of the apps. The file type is just to distinguish which app to use.

It is essential that both Desktop and iPad are running the same version ie files created in rel 1.6 will not open in rel 1.7.

Have you closed the file on your Desktop? It may still be linked in some way. The usual method is to use the Open from Cloud option so that edits, when saved, update the cloud file. Otherwise the edits are kept in sandbox and when saved, are saved to the default store location.

Don't you have that backward? Files created in 1.7 will not open in 1.6, but the other way should work just fine.
