Text Wrapping on hidden objects

Recommended Posts

Add a page in publisher
Add a text frame and fill with text
Place a shape on top the text
Set text wrapping on the shape

Expected behavior text will wrap around the shape (which it does)

Deselect shape in the Layers panel and the wrapping remains !!!

Is this a bug or as designed?

(Windows 8.1 - Tested on Current versions of Publisher & Publisher Beta - No Master Pages in use)

To clarify: Hide the shape and the wrapping remains.

I see the same thing. I don't know if it's supposed to work that way or not, but I will point out that the object still exists, even though it is not currently visible. Also, if you select the object's layer in the Layer panel, even though the object is hidden its bounding box will show on the page.

So, all in all, I suspect that's intended behavior.

It seems strange because considering everything else like images, filter layers, shapes, masks, adjustments layers, etc

As soon as you hide them in the Layers panel their effect on your document is like they don't exist anymore.

But wrapping still sees the shape (or image) like it does exist no matter if the shape is switched on or off.

Seems a bit inconsistent for this one function to operate differently to everything else and totally not what I expected to happen

So, all in all, I'm going with bug or something that needs another look at by the Devs

Hi Carl :)

I've double checked with our developers and I'm being told this is by design, and this behaviour is mimicked by InDesign.

We don't plan on changing the way this is implemented, as we don't wish to break users documents who may be using this as a feature and expect it to work this way - apologies!

Please note -

I am currently out of the office for a short while whilst recovering from surgery (nothing serious!), therefore will not be available on the Forums during this time.

Should you require a response from the team in a thread I have previously replied in - please Create a New Thread and our team will be sure to reply as soon as possible.

Many thanks!

Hi Dan

Thanks for checking with the Devs so quickly

No problem, I guess I will just have to adapt to this anomaly in my workflow

It is a feature for text wrap in a situation where you want to see & edit text only, either in the sake of concentration or of speed (less use of cpu/gpu)

To hide an object in the layers panel does not mean to delete it temporarily – you even can edit a frame which is set to invisible in the layers panel, for instance edit or style its text or scale/move a master page.

I guess only adjustment layers get set like "deleted" when set to invisible.
