How can I open I file I clicked don't save to in affinity Designer

Recommended Posts

I was working on a document in affinity designer (on mac) and I was trying to edit a photo so I clicked on edit in affinity photo, this wasn't what I wanted and for some reason I thought it has duplicated the file and opened it in affinity photo so I closed the affinity window and clicked don't save. when I went back to designer I was horrified to see that the document was gone. Is there any way of recovering this file either through affinity or caches or temps, anything??

I think the only option you might have here is to force close Affinity Designer and then reopen Affinity Designer and hope there is a recovery file.

That wont work.

Designer creates a recovery file (.autosave) the moment you create a new document. When you hand off that document to APhoto, using File > Edit in Photo , that recovery file is automatically deleted.

APhoto then immediately creates its own recovery file (.autosave) and when you close the document (saving or not saving it) that recovery file is also automatically deleted.

For my workflow I always save my work just before doing any switching between Affinity apps as you never know if the switch will be successful or not.

If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.
