Update Unavailable With This Apple ID

Recommended Posts

I have Affinity Designer on MacOS purchased around July of 2018. I updated to the latest version of iOS over the weekend, and today (through the App Store) when I tried to update Affinity Designer to 17.3 from 17.2 I get an error message:

"Update Unavailable With This Apple ID"
This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled.

I have not made any changes to my Apple ID's email address, and it is the only one for the computer. It is the same one that I have been using for the past year to get all the other updates. I guess my question is how do I tell if it was "refunded or cancelled" as opposed to some other error?

You'll need to discuss that with Apple Support. Serif cannot help, as they have no information about purchases made outside their own Store.

However, I'm confused. You say you purchased Designer for MacOS. And now you've updated your iOS version. But MacOS is for the desktop, and iOS is for iPad. Use of Affinity on iOS would require a separate purchase.

Did you also purchase Designer for iOS? Do you have the same Apple ID on the iOS and MacOS stores?

Typo, I mean MacOS for desktop exclusively in this scenario.

Apple support does not provide insight into how individual companies handle their in-app license keys. So it looks like I’m screwed and have to purchase another one.

Apple knows whether you purchased, and whether you initiated a refund, because any such would happen through the Mac App Store. They are the only ones with any record of your purchases via their Store. As far as I know, Serif has not issued you any license or license key; that comes by virtue of your having made the purchase and is tied to your Apple ID (which Serif also does not know).

But, I'm sure someone from Serif will be along to comment, either later this evening or during business hours tomorow, probably.

Hi @BlakeH,

Walt has already hit everything on the head, and you will need to discuss this with Apple.

A product key is not issued for App Store purchases, the licence is verified through the App Store and linked to an Apple ID.
