Hello,

My first ever entry in a forum...

I have recently purchased Affinity Photo, which I am extremely pleased with. My aim is to get away from 'Adobe rental' with PhotoShop and Lightroom. Is there a Serif Lightroom alternative to allow photos to be organised with menus?

Thank you for any replies.

As far as I know there isn't currently anything from Serif and nothing I have found will recognise the native afphoto files. However, for general file navigation and especially for raw file preparation I absolutely can recommend DxO Photolab. I did a comparison some time ago (just for myself) and the output quality from Photolab was clearly better than Lightroom. It's only downside is that it doesn't have automated importing / renaming of files, etc.

I also use DXO for RAW conversion but for file browsing, NeoFinder (MAC OS) will recognize afphoto files.

So will Apple's Finder, so-called Smart Folders (actually saved searches), & Quick Look.

Capture One is my main RAW editor and replaces Lightroom without a problem. You pay a little more, but you get a top of the line RAW editor. Only thing that is lacking is wide lens support, for example my Tokina 24mm/70mm is not supported. Of course you can still use the application without support and use the general lens profile for that type of lens.

With the update of my editing system to a 2019 iMac 27” I’m also looking for a Lightroom alternative as the next OS won’t support the 32 bit LR 6.14. I’m using LR since v.1. Years of folders. Like others I’m using DxO Photolab2. I then export to LR for output with watermark. But I need a digital asset management app. My main use for Affinity Photo is to create graphics for video. There is an Export PSD For Final Cut Pro X option which I like.
