Publisher extremely slow on long documents

Welcome to the Affinity forums @Anne-C.!

There are some strategies to speed things up.

1. Visit Einstellungen >> Performance and change Ansichtsqualität to Nächstgelegen, uncheck Präzise Zuschnitte verwenden and select Niedrige Qualität for Retina-Rendering. Per default Hardware-Beschleunigung should be checked (if possible), if not then check this box. Works for me.

2. Turn off anything that needs rendering capacities like Show Text Samples in the Text Styles panel. If I have a highly complex document, I turn of most of the panels, so that APu is more or less a typewriter.

3. Reduce the Snapping options to a minimum. I have document for example, that contains literally millions of curves and with Snapping on I get a timeout with APu calculating potential Snapping Candidates.

4. Use linked images / documents where possible. Embedding makes the document simply bigger and slower.

@ Joachim,

the problem seems to be the "hardware acceleration" that we can't enable on the computer of my college. She has Windows 10 Pro (10.0.19043) and a Quadro M2000 as graphics card. Is this graphics card too old for affinity?

After a short research I would say no, but I am not sure, as I am no hardware specialist. As elsewhere recommended a complete uninstall and installing the very latest graphics driver could work?!?

Start a command prompt and run the dxdiag command. You'll get a display of your computer's capabilities. A screenshot of the Display tab should answer that question.

The graphics card should be able to work with hardware acceleration, as it is DirectX 12.1 capable.

Please be sure you have the latest graphics card driver installed.

unfortunately I have to retract what I said. Even on a very small document 667kb affinity is start to be very  slow again.

Attached is what I get when I run the dxdiag. It's seems to me that affinity should work wih this kind of computer. And I have no idea what else I can try.

Does anyone have a clue?
