How do I discover which fonts are missing?

Recommended Posts

I'm using Affinity Designer on Mac.

Some fonts are missing from an .ai file that I'm working with.

I'd like to figure out the names of the font files that are missing.

Google tells me that the names of the missing fonts should show up in something called the character panel..
I can't find this panel. And if I google further I can't find out how to find the panel.

So exactly do I discover the names of the missing fonts?

I found the character panel!

However, it doesn't show me which fonts are missing.

If I select 'Missing Fonts' from the dropdown menu, it just shows me the font that Designer is substituting for the missing font.
It tells me nothing about the font that is missing.

Is it possible at all to get Designer to show me the names of the fonts that are missing?

Double-click in any text frame. Click the Font dropdown, then click the "Used" box to restrict the font list to those fonts that appear in the docunent. You'll see something like this, where any missing font has a ? in front of it:
