staceybradshaw
My question right now is how to compile multiple images into a layout for a website header. I created a new document as a web file with a transparent background. I created a new layer, opened my first image, and copy/pasted it into the document, but it pasted onto the background and not the new layer. So I can't move it, and I'm not sure how to put it onto a different layer and keep the background layer clear. As a disclaimer: I'm trying to learn Affinity Photo without prior experience with Photoshop or any other similar editing program. I would love any help someone can offer! Thanks so much! :-)~ Stacey

Thanks so much! :-) ~ Stacey Hi Stacey, Welcome to the forum. I'm more familiar with Photoshop & I'm stil learning Affinity Designer & Affinity Photo. Have you checked out the Affinity video tutorials? Here's one about layers in Affinity Designer, which may help: https://vimeo.com/112930018 Could you post your Photo file in a reply to me so I can get a better idea about what you want to do. Pasting an object into the file will create its own layer for the object, this is similar to how Photoshop works. Staff Lee D Posted June 29, 2015 Staff Share Posted June 29, 2015 Hi Stacey, Did you have the new layer selected before inserting the image? The video Paul has recommended should help in understanding layers. Lee staceybradshaw
Staff MEB Posted June 29, 2015 Staff Share Posted June 29, 2015 Hi Stacey, The image you copied and pasted in the new document retained the name of the layer from the document you copied it from. It isn't actually the background of your document - if you delete it you will see that the transparent background is still there . Just rename it to whatever you find appropriate (double-click over the name in the Layers Panel). To move the layer, click on it with the Move Tool - both on canvas or on the Layers panel (second icon from the toolbar) and drag it on the canvas. staceybradshaw and Paul Bravery 2 Quote A Guide to Learning Affinity Software | Affinity Quick Reference
