Dan C Posted September 20, 2019 Posted September 20, 2019 Hi JeanSJ Sorry to hear you're having trouble! 12 hours ago, JeanSJ said: Am getting a red overlay on a fielI wish to print and can<t seem to scale it or adjust it to fit Are you using Windows by chance? This is a known bug that our developers are aware of and we're working to fix this asap. Apologies for any inconveniences in the meantime!
BeauRX Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 I’m using the Mac version of AP, the printer setup page preview will display a red overlay if the image size exceeds the paper size. Not sure why you can reduce print area, there is a “fit” option on my printer. You could also try scaling way down to test e.g. 5%.
Dan C Posted September 23, 2019 Posted September 23, 2019 13 hours ago, JeanSJ said: I'm using Mac OSX Mojave Thanks for confirming, could you please provide a screenshot of your Print dialog? As BeauRX has mentioned, this overlay appears when your document is larger than your paper size, meaning you'll either need to scale the document or change the print type for the red overlay to disappear, indicating the document now 'fits' on the paper.
Staff Patrick Connor Posted December 6, 2019 Staff Posted December 6, 2019 We have made fixes/improvements to this area (Print dialog isn't removing the red overlay on a scaled image) of the program in the latest beta release of Affinity Photo & Affinity Designer on Windows. If you would like to try these changes the beta software is available in the forum posts listed below. Once Affinity Publisher has been through a full beta process the change will be released in a future free 1.8.0 update to all customers. Can Not Print Worth a Damn Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 April 2020 and still no tutorial on how to understand the Affinity Photo Print Dialogue? Seriously or am I blind? The Affinity Photo Help F1 is absolutely useless. People do actually still print photos don't you know?

Since the print options & how they are organized varies depending on the printer & its installed driver software, & there are hundreds of different printers, it would not be practical to try to cover more than the basics. emmrecs01 1 All 3 1.10.8, & all 3 V2.6 Mac apps (currently 2.6.4); 2020 iMac 27"; 3.8GHz i7, Radeon Pro 5700, 32GB RAM; macOS 10.15.7 All 3 V2 apps for iPad; 6th Generation iPad 32 GB; Apple Pencil; iPadOS 15.7
Can Not Print Worth a Damn Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Perhaps I did not explain myself well. I understand the difference between the various printer driver properties dialogues. What I am asking is why is there no explanation of the print dialogue box presented by Affinity Photo when initiating the print function from within Affinity Photo. Specifically: What is the difference between Document and Selection in the Range option? Where is a full explanation of Fit to Printable, Shrink to Printable and Scale? Scale is obvious, the other two options considerably less so. And perhaps most puzzling, what are the VCR-like icons for back, forward and 1/1 that appear under the graphic illustration in the upper right corner, which by the way, appears the same regardless of which printer I have selected because this is a part of Affintiy Photo, not each available printer and it's printer driver. I continue to find it odd that a company which has written and sold hard cover books to users as well as supplied online help files and seemingly scores of video tutorials has not, that I can find, supplied a simple yet complete explanation of the print dialogue or whatever you prefer to call what I am including below. People do still print photos at home. Am I the only one puzzled by it all?

Scale is obvious, the other two options considerably less so. It should be in the Help, in the Print topic. Online link: https://affinity.help/photo/English.lproj/pages/Sharing/print.html But that describes Actual Size, Scale to Fit, and Scale. You could report that as a Bug, in the appropriate Bug forum. 19 minutes ago, Can Not Print Worth a Damn said: And perhaps most puzzling, what are the VCR-like icons for back, forward and 1/1 that appear under the graphic illustration in the upper right corner, which by the way, appears the same regardless of which printer I have selected because this is a part of Affintiy Photo, not each available printer and it's printer driver. They are not usable or meaningful unless you're printing more than one page. If you are, they let you preview the additional pages. If your canvas size is smaller than your paper size then then Fit to Printable will enlarge it so your canvas uses as much space as it can on the paper 3. If your canvas size is larger than your paper size then Shrink to Printable will shrink it so that your canvas fits on the paper 4. Can Not Print Worth a Damn Posted April 10, 2020 Posted April 10, 2020 Thank you to both Carl and Walt. It seems so simple but I'm one of those people that needs to understand. I tried Fit to Print and Shrink to Print but didn't really see the difference visually in the dialogue. As to Walt's suggestion, I considered that but didn't see how to even option for printing individual layers. I'll look into both. thanks again.
