Brush Edges Are Too Jagged/Pixelated

Hi forum!

I've just started using Affinity Photo and have run into a problem with the brushes.

Basically, whenever I try and draw anything other than a straight line, the edges look jagged or "pixelated".

I've attached some images showing what I mean, where the straight line has perfectly smooth edges, but anything on a diagonal or curve results in very rough edges. It's almost as if the "spacing" setting on the brush is not small enough, yet I have it set to 1%

Some notes to help any professionals with diagnosing my affliction:

- No matter what size the document or brush, the problem persists.
- No amount of zoom in or out helps.
- Changing Hardness, Spacing, Flow or Shape doesn't fix.
- Issue persists whether or not Stabilizer is used.
- Issue persists whether or not a stylus is used.

P.S. I don't know if it has anything to do with rasterizing or anti-aliasing, but I deliberately avoided using those terms above as I have very little understanding of what they are/if they're applicable in this instance.

Reducing the spacing to 1% fixes the jagged look to basic brushes for me, i wonder if it was a mistake that they are set like that?

If you go to [Edit > Preferences > Performance], is the 'View Quality' set to 'Nearest Neighbour'?  If it is, try changing it to 'Bilinear (Best Quality)'.

The alternative to what you are seeing is informally known as "jaggies" -- stair-stepped edges causes by not anti-aliasing raster images. There is a way to disable anti-aliasing, but this will not produce smooth edges.

It hasn't completely fixed the problem, but definitely a significant improvement that now makes the bush usable at least!

At the expense of taking up more of your time, do you know any instances when using 'Nearest Neighbour' would actually be a more desirable setting? Will having changed the View Quality to Bilinear have a negative impact on viewing any other types of images?
