get in shape
Hi, I have a shape where I want to add diagonal lines. Is it possible to align (space) them exactly the same width. I know I can duplicate with CTRL + J but what if I want to add a line later or change the spacing? Thank you
carl123
In Designer, the Alignment button on the Toolbar should give you the options you want Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. get in shape
I only see Horizontally and Vertically there.
carl123
You can draw and duplicate your diagonal lines manually then use the Alignment button to align them horizontally and to set spacing etc Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. thomaso
If you imagine a diagonal line distance as the addition of its horizontal + vertical distance it works to align them. Simply shown as _ + | = / , where _ is the horizontal and | is the vertical distance. get in shape
I already have a pattern with 15 diagonal lines. The are created with CTRL + J so they are aligned. Now I want to add 1 or 2 lines and maybe change the spacing a bit. If i click in the Alignment button on the toolbar and use space Horizontally then my pattern will change too much. thomaso
It is indeed a pity (and worth a feature request?) that snapping does not react for non rectangular directions like diagonals. To apply the distance numerical (not visual) one needs apparently to go the workaround with a maths calculation to get the vertical + horizontal lengths form the known distance. I guess it is related to triangle (Pythagoras?). >> Unfortunately I don't find the formula to get the distances 1/2 b + a for the only known perpendicular height "h" ... (whereas h = 0.2 inch from your other thread) Quote macOS 10.14.6 | MacBookPro Retina 15" | Eizo 27" | Affinity V1

Can you upload a couple of screenshots showing what you have and what you want when you "add 1 or 2 lines and maybe change the spacing a bit" Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. John Rostron
Your formula is incorrect. It should be sqrt(a^2-b^2/4). GarryP
get in shape: You also have the option of creating a custom two-axis grid and using that (my example has a 30 degree slant). Personally, I think I would use an extra artboard to just hold an original copy of the vertical/horizontal lines, make any additions and re-spacing in that original, and them copy them to the ‘working artboard’ for rotation. Repeat for any further changes.
get in shape
Hi GarryP How can I determine the degree of a triangle so I can set the axis grid equal to it?
thomaso
As I wrote unfortunately I was aware of my not knowing the formula. (and I picked the posted images more a as samples for a direction to search for;) The problem for the OP might be that only one lengths is known: the perpendicular distance between two diagonals. – Even the diagonals angle is unknown. GarryP
Sorry, get in shape, I’m not sure what you mean about a triangle. I mentioned the grid as you said (as I understood it) that you wanted to draw lines that were all at the same angle but with a certain spacing. Using a grid was only a possible answer when originally drawing the lines, if you need to change the angle later (or don’t know what the angle will be) then it’s probably not a good solution. PixelPest
Will a "Horizontal triangular" grid (via "Grid and Axis Manager") be of any help?
get in shape
@PixelPest Thank you. Great tip and very helpful.
