richard gold Posted September 11, 2019 Share Posted September 11, 2019 To the Affinity Problem Solvers, I think I should download the new version of Affinity Photo. It would appear that some items have been updated that I do not have access to with the old version. For instance, there is no ADD LAYER MASK at the bottom of the Layers Panel as described in a tutorial. The question is how easy is it to install the new version on a P.C. and will it disrupt or just add to the original program? Any known problems? carl123 Posted September 11, 2019 Share Posted September 11, 2019 The current 1.7 version has some nice new features/fixes but it also introduced some serious bugs which the Devs are working very hard on fixing If 1.6 is working for you and you are using it in a production/commercial environment then I would wait a little longer until they release a "fixed" version of 1.7 If you are just using it as a hobbyist and can live with the new bugs then upgrading now may be OK for you. On my version, to Hide All with a mask I read that I should click on ADD Layer Mask found at the bottom of the Layer Panel. However, that button does not exist on my Layer panel. carl123 Posted September 11, 2019 Share Posted September 11, 2019 (edited) Not sure why you do not have the Mask Layer Icon at the bottom of the Layers panel I just fired up my 1.6.5.135 version and I have it there as expected But if you want to add a Mask to a Layer, select the layer in the Layers panel then Layer > New Mask Layer To "Hide All" you would then need to Invert the Mask which is Layer > Invert If you could upload a screenshot showing your layers panel it may help explain what you are seeing or not seeing EDIT: You can also do Layer > New Empty Mask Layer which is the same as adding a Mask and then Inverting it Edited September 11, 2019 by carl123 additional information Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. Staff MEB Posted September 11, 2019 Staff Share Posted September 11, 2019 Hi Richard gold, Layer > New Empty Mask Layer does exactly the same as Photoshop Hide All command (it creates a mask filled with black). If you want to speed things up a little bit you can set a custom keyboard for it in Affinity Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts section.
