Opacity: Three types – What differences?

Recommended Posts

Can someone explain the difference between the three types of fill opacity options in

• Color panel
• Effects panel
• Layer panel

I am aware an objects fill can be not just a color but other kinds of fill, e.g. an image, a group etc.

Nevertheless, I would assume these two opacity options are synchronized for a fill color – but they aren't:

With Layer opacity versus Effects fill opacity it is even more confusing to me:

They both affect the complete layer and don't distinguish between fill and e.g. stroke. – What is the difference between these two options?

Hi thomaso,
The opacity found in:
Colour panel - refers to the colour's opacity only (the A in a RGBA colour)
Layers panel - refers to the opacity of the whole layer
Effects panel - refers to the opacity of the object (both fill and stroke areas) to which the effects are applied to. If you set its opacity to 0 (zero), only the FX themselves will be rendered. The object itself becomes invisible.
