Affinity Publisher
Coping and Pasting text into a table cell cashes program

  1. Are you using the latest release version? Yes / 1.7.2
  2. Can you reproduce it? Yes
  3. Does it happen for a new document? Yes
  4. If you cannot provide a sample document then please give an accurate description of the problem for example it should include most of the following:

Computer: iMac Retina 4K, 21.5 inch 2017, Radeon Pro 560 4 GB
macOS: Mojave 10.14.6 (all updates)
Pages: 8.1 (6369)

Using information from an Apple Pages table.
Please note that I am copying and pasting individual cells, not the complete table.

  1. Highlight text in the table cell
  2. Copy text with Command C
  3. Select cell in Publisher table
  4. Paste text as unformatted text
  5. Click in column heading to adjust column width to fit text.
  6. Program crashes.

In general coping and pasting text from a Pages table does not work.
The application will also crash if:
Copy multiple Pages cells and paste them into multiple Publisher cells.

Hi @MWK,

Thanks for the report

Do you find this happens with any table from Pages?

I've just created a quick table and inserted some filler text and can't reproduce these crashes with that.

If you find it is unique to a Pages file you have any chance of uploading it?

Hi Jon P:

Thanks for looking into this problem.
Known it is problematic when you can not recreate the issue but it always occurs for me.

Yes the problem occurs with any Pages document. I just created a new Pages document and the same problem occurred.

Not sure what information would help, to recap.

I can paste the text into a Publisher cell without a problem. The crash occurs for me every time I do this:

  1. Hover over an existing column and click on the arrow icon to display the following options:
  2. Autofit Column to Contents
When I select the above option the program will cash.

Test today with new Pages document.

  1. Create new Pages document and Select Insert>Table> Basic.
  2. Type a word into a cell and select just the word.
  3. Copy with command C.
  4. Create new Publisher document.
  5. Use the Table Tool to create a table. [Table is the only thing in the document]
  6. Select a cell in the table and paste text without formatting. [So far no crash]
  7. Select the arrow icon at top of column and click “Autofit Column to Contents”.
  8. Program crashes.

Yep, crashing for me now following that, not sure what steps I missed last time (maybe has something to do with how you select the text, as i copied multiple cells over)

I've logged it, thanks for the clear recipe to follow to help reproduce it

Edit: Fairly certain the apple pages stuff isn't needed, it seems to crash when doing autofit regardless for me

We believe the issue "Crash when auto fitting table to text" has been fixed in 1.8.0 [Publisher beta is currently available if you care to check].
