Can't "Import Brushes..." on Designer for iPad 1.7.2.6

Recommended Posts

Howdy,

Apologies if this is addressed elsewhere on this forum already, but I wasn't able to find anything. My issue is this:

I purchased the "Grave Etcher Brush Pack" from the Affinity Store to use with Affinity Designer for the iPad, but I can't figure out how to install it (using the published instructions for how to install brushes).

From within the app I click on the Vector Persona and then from the Brushes Studio I choose "Import Brushes..." from the hamburger button.

From what I can tell, Designer opens up a version of Apple's "Files" application, from which I navigate to where I have the .afbrushes file stored (I've tried storing in various locations in Files, including Google Drive and "On My iPad). The file appears but without any "afbrushes" extension. The icon and listing for the file appears grey/gray-colo(u)red, as if Affinity doesn't recognize the file as a legitimate brushes file. I can poke, pinch, and swipe at the brushes file as much as I want, but Affinity Designer + the Files dialog refuse to consume the file.

I've tried with other community-created .afbrushes files and get exactly the same behavior.

So... how can I import an .afbrushes file into Affinity Designer for the iPad? Any information that I can provide to provide clues as to what is happening?

Thanks!

Regards,

Jim

Hi Jim, I believe there is currently a bug in the current release that effects brush importing. Hopefully we will see a fix in App Store soon.

So we're now at version 1.7.3 of Affinity Designer and there's been an update to the iPad operating system (iPad OS) and there still seems to be no way to actually use brushes in Affinity Designer on the iPad. By what right is Affinity still selling products on their store that can't actually be used?

I was able to import .abr brush into the current 1.7.3. It would not install previously. Have you tried importing from iCloud?

Hi,

I am having the exact same problem from the packs of brushes that I have just purchased from Serif, I have found that some don't work at all, but some I can get to download and import into Designer, however they will only import as Raster (Pixel mode) brushes, and not Vector, which is very frustrating.

If anyone has any advice that would be very helpful please.

Sorry to Hijack your thread!

I have the same issue after purchasing 4 sets of brushes for both Photo and Designer. I have even tried adding the extension “afbrushes” to the files and that made no difference. They are still greyed out and not selectable. I thought it was me but apparently others are having the same issue. I can’t get them to load in either of the programs.

I too am looking for a solution especially if it is something that I am doing wrong.

The brush will be either a raster brush or a vector brush, not both. You need to be in Designer (vector) persona to load vector brushes and in pixel persona to import pixel based brushes. :)

Any zipped files need to be unzipped prior to importing.

Hi,

Yes I've just discovered this myself after talking to some of the brush creators, I assumed that they would be vector brushes and thought I'd read somewhere that they were, but no they are indeed just raster brushes.

Any files that could be unzipped were unzipped, the Tattoo Art brushes that I purchased don't come zipped, they are just an afbrush file, but they won't download at all which is very frustrating.
