Language is already set to English United Kingdom

You've looked in the Character panel, not just in your Preferences?

If so, can you supply a small sample file for us to look at?

Hey Guys,

Can I just ask how you 'set and forget' the language, i had the same problem thinking spelling was not working. I already have a document I want to check, where do I go to select the language and make it stick for all the text boxes, I can select English from the Language section on the right hand side, but it always reverts to unknown.

Cheers,

The language will default to the language you've chosen for the User Interface, assuming you have those dictionaries installed. (Or possibly to the language you've chosen for the system, though this behavior may differ between Mac and Windows.)

If you want to use a different language, you can:

  • Draw your first Text Frame, open the Character studio panel, and choose the spelling language in the Language section. It should hold for the rest of the frames you draw, unless you assign a paragraph style or character style. Or
  • Use a paragraph style that has the language you want specified. You can make this easier by modifying the Base paragraph style and specifying your language there, as other styles will inherit the spelling language from Base. If you want this to be permanent, and across documents, you can use the Text Styles studio panel, which has an option in the hamburger/settings menu to make your current styles the defaults.
