I am new to Affinity Designer and Publisher so I may have something setup wrong. When using the frame text tool in Designer, I am unable to get the text to automatically flow to the next line when it reaches the end of the frame. Also, when I try to utilize a soft return (option+shift+return) to force the the text to the next line, the text starts again on the same lime. Attached are screen shots, the 1st showing the text not dropping to the next line in the frame, and the 2nd showing the text starting again on the same line when using a soft return.

What am I missing or doing wrong? Thanks or your help.

No Break (Character panel) would explain the text not wrapping.

It would not explain that shift+return behavior, though. For that, check the Leading Override in the Character panel, just above the No Break option in the Positioning and Transform section of the panel: image.png.c5d8965f0028dd809acd5f5936f3cde3.png

Thanks for your help.

When I select the text frame, there is not a check mark in the box for the"No Break" option in the Character pallet. Also the value in the leading override box is set to zero. I just opened up a new document and used the text frame tool and had the same result, with No Break and leading override set to zero.

I have the same problem right now. Its very annoying.

If you can share a document that exhibits that behavior, one of us may be able to explain it to you.

Guys, this is STILL an issue, even with the new version. In Designer 2 I basically can't use the text frame to type something. This is a basic function that annoys me tremendously. There are also various ways of choosing which line spacing you want and I have a feeling they cancel each other out sometimes creating an absolute mess. Please tell me what to do about that!

Hi @david_ritzmann,
Welcome to Affinity Forums :)
To fix the text frame do the following:
- select all the text in the frame
- go to the Character Panel, Positioning and Transforming section, and set the Leading Override (the last dropdown on the left) to Auto. As it is (set to zero) it's overriding the value you set for the Leading (5pt) and forcing the lines to overlap each other.

You can then keep writing normally (you may want to increase the Leading in the context toolbar or in the Paragraph panel, Spacing section on top which is currently set to 5pt) and eventually use the Space After Paragraph (in the Paragraph panel, Spacing section, bottom right input field) to set the space between the paragraph and the line of text instead of using a second (empty) paragraph to add space between them.
