Arghmath
Hi I have encountered problem with saving file in Designer. Steps: 1. Working and updating Designer document 2. Save or Save as 3. Error screen: Failed to save file. This should be reported 4. The file is created (in case of Save As...), but when trying it open error occured 5. Opening the file error: Failed to open. The file type is not supported. After restarting Designer, same error occurs. Anything what could be done with this on my side? Thank you
pruus
Do You still have the document opened when you try to save as with the same name? Choose a different name in Save As. Try this, and let us know is this works.
walt.farrell
Also, where are you trying to save it to? Is it a local drive, or a network drive, or ...? Arghmath
add pruus: Yes even new name doesn't work. The file name is created --> I can see it on the local drive, but it's corrupted. add walt.farrell: Local SSD nvme in standard project folder. Staff Sean P Posted September 3, 2019 Staff Share Posted September 3, 2019 Hi Arghmath, This sounds like something might have gone wrong with your file. Are you able to open the file, add a single shape and then save it? Does that still give you issues? I assume the files it does create are actually 0kb? Would it be possible for you to attach your file that you're working on that is giving you this trouble please?
Arghmath
Sorry for the late reply. Yes I think the it is related to the damaged file, however the problem seems to be with the saving. Yes it was possible to edit the file. Unfortunately the file can not be posted here to public forum. IF the problem occurs again, is there any place where to report bugs directly except forum? Staff Sean P Posted September 16, 2019 Staff Share Posted September 16, 2019 Unfortunately the forum is the only place for reporting issues. However if you do not wish to share the file publicly please say and we can supply you with a link to upload to our internal Dropbox! LynnB
@Arghmath - Having the same issue with Publisher. Lost a few files because of this. One of the files give me the error "The file type is not supported" which may be caused by the corrupt file have a size of 0 KB. Is there any attachment to your file and it possibly being an Illustrator file at one time? Perhaps originally created in AI, but then saved as EPS then opened in AD and saved and worked on as a Designer file? Hope a solution is found soon. Veronika
I have the same problem, Windows 8. Exporting as pdf usually helps, but you lose some editing posibilities anyway. Saving worked fine BEFORE the 1.7 update. I changed nothing in my laptop, only the version changed.

I was thinking what could cause the problem with the saving error, and now I just realized, that I did update to the newer version that time...and the saving start working after I've had restarted my computer. Arghmath
LynnB - I'm not sure if this could be related as I have not encountered any saving issues in the Publisher. However, haven't you recently upgraded to a newer version?
LynnB
@Arghmath - Yes. Updated to the most recent release. Installed the current Beta as well, but have not had time to use it yet.
Veronika
Well restarting helps, but the error reoccurs in no time... So it leaves me wondering what went wrong. Anyway, with restarting I lose the data too. The only way is to restart, check if saving works -> if not, restart again. Kinda unconvenient. Veronika
Consider checking your harddisk. My computer died yesterday due to harddisk damage, so i had to switch to another laptop. Saving works fine here so far.

I find out that UWP fail but desktop version can save files successfully. Both are newest softwares. Arghmath
It's the desktop version. However after upgrading to 1.7.3 version, the error never occurred again. As mentioned before I believe this error was related to upgrading to newer (previous) version of the software.
