If you are using Adobe Acrobat Pro for PDF creation, you can password-protect your documents. Adobe Acrobat Pro supports password-protection as well as enables users to apply various security parameters on PDF files. But if you don't have Adobe Acrobat Pro, then you can use a third-party PDF Protection tool. One is given in the blog post linked above. I hope the shared information would be useful for you.
