Lobsang Karma
Hello Affinity Community, I'm using a custom rainbow vector brush as a stroke. With any sharp angle that I create, this happens, where it overlaps with itself on the inside section. How can this be prevented, so that the purple, blue and green in this example appear to be flat, on one plane, so one does not appear o be on top of another? In the picture, I want the whole stroke to look how the yellow, red and orange do. The circled area is where the problem is. Thank you so much! walt.farrell
Edit: Sorry; was looking at the wrong part of the image. I'll start by saying I'm not an expert, and perhaps someone who knows more than I about Affinity or painting will have a different, better answer for you. However, my answer would be, don't paint overlapping strokes like that. Or, don't use a multi-color brush. Consider a simpler case, and consider painting in the real world. Take any real brush you like, and paint a red stroke. Now change to a different color, say green, and paint a stroke that crosses the first one. The second stroke is on top, because that's where you painted it. And because the colors are different, it will look like it's on top. The two strokes can only appear to be in the same plane if they're the same color. PixelPest
It depends on the stroke width: And zoom-level for some reason: The fat stroke is scaled up with enabled "Scale with object"
Lobsang Karma
Thank you everybody, But what if I want it to be that exact same stroke size that I started with? Are there any workarounds for this or is this something that AD is not capable of? Thank you!
PixelPest
This is probably a rendering bug. Maybe one of the officials can explain what´s happening here - especially the zoom level weirdness. Cheers
Staff Sean P Posted September 2, 2019 Staff Share Posted September 2, 2019 Hi Lobsand Karma, Without seeing your document or brush I can't tell how it is setup however to achieve this you need a brush where the Corner value is set to 'Fold' and also if the angle is less than 90deg you will probably need to increase the Mitre value. See attached document. It is also worth ensuring you don't have to many extra nodes near to the corner as that may confuse matters more. The zoom level issue you mentioned PixelPest is already with development. RainbowCorners.afdesign
PixelPest
It seems to work with closed paths just up to a certain stroke width and straight lines - but I can ruin it in a second by adding some curvature confiture and freaks out at a miter of "1" :

In some cases it can cause a crash as well!
