KnikmanAV Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 I am stuck with a text frame that is partly outside the spread/margins. Frame is empty and not connected to any other frame. I cannot select it and delete it. I makes export "impossible" because of an "overflow error" (no other overflowing text frames visible with textflow enabled). Any thoughts?
walt.farrell Posted August 31, 2019 Posted August 31, 2019 First thought: Is the export truly "impossible" or do you just have to click past the warning message? Second thought: Select it on the Layers panel, and delete it from there. Finally, I have no problem selecting such a Text Frame, on Windows, using either the Move Tool or the Frame Text Tool. Of course, if you don't have View > Show Text Flow enabled then it's hard to find/see such a frame unless you use the Layers panel, but if I know it's there I can still click on it even though it's invisible. If you're not using View > Show Text Flow then I recommend doing so. jmwellborn 1 -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop 1: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. KnikmanAV Posted August 31, 2019 Author Posted August 31, 2019 Hi Walt, Thanks for the reaction. No I can't export. I do use text flow enabled. But I can't select it. If i click on it nothing happens. On the layers panel of that page the frame isn't visible as a layer. When adding a new spread and delete the old spread the frame is on the new spread. Closing/restarting still shows the frame. Rebooting the system doesn't help either. So...

If it's present on a new spread, then it's probably on your Master Page, and you'll need to switch to the Master Page and look at its Layers panel. -- Walt Designer, Photo, and Publisher V1 and V2 at latest retail and beta releases PC: Desktop: Windows 11 Pro 23H2, 64GB memory, AMD Ryzen 9 5900 12-Core @ 3.00 GHz, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Laptop 1: Windows 11 Pro 24H2, 32GB memory, Intel Core i7-10750H @ 2.60GHz, Intel UHD Graphics Comet Lake GT2 and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Laptop GPU. Dennison Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 I have have much the same issue - a "ghost" text frame. - NOT in layers - NOT in Master Pages In the screenshot, the page has Normal Pages applied - as you can see, there is no Text Frame like that in the Matser. If it was in the Master page, it would be selectable and show the X that it's locked. A nuisance more than an issue. But it would be good to keep the layouts clean. Thanks Dennison
MikeTO Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 I think it's there somewhere but you may have to hunt for it. Check the Layers panel and expand every layer. There could be an extra master applied to one side of the spread and that master, even though applied to just one side, could have a facing page frame on the other side of the spread. You didn't show us an expanded Layers panel so we can't see what's going on with that page. carl123 Posted September 1, 2024 Posted September 1, 2024 Ghost Text Frames have been known to be found on pages other than the one it appears one So, also check the previous and next page spreads to see if it's in the Layers panel there To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum.
