Stella HB Posted August 28, 2019 Share Posted August 28, 2019 Can anyone help me? Capitals in Affinity Publisher using Garamond (copy pasted from Microsoft word) are weirdly bold. See attached example. I don't want to buy a font if I don't need to or I'm doing something daft that can be fixed. Also what happens if you try to import the text directly into Publisher and not via copy and paste? To do this, click in a text box and then click File>Place and you'll be able to insert a docx file. Try pasting it without formatting, Edit>Paste Without Format and see if it appears any better. Here's a screen shot of the same poem after I changed all the capital I glyphs to small caps of a different size. Actually, I'm not convinced it's any better! See third line where you can compare I and L. So I think the font is to "blame". I wanted to leave it - the poem is by a 10/11 year old and also 'berried' fits the tree theme. I just think the way it comes across is like the capital letters are in bold font, and like Joachim says, it's because of the variation in thickness. Not sure what to do tbh! Maybe it appears only to be bold when rendered to the display? As an alternative take Courier as the font. Or, but that was never the intention of the maker of the font, change the horizontal scale of the I to 85%. But this is just an ugly hack. If Molly means “interred” then she should have the option to spell berried correctly, as she may possibly be unamused when she is 20 or 21 and reading her first published poem.
