IPv6
Please, add "Preserve alpha" option for smudge and mix brushes. Smudge frequently used to "fix" something (mix brush also) and fixing without alpha-changes really needed sometimes. P.S.: Or add "keep alpha" options to whole layer... This way all tool will have such functionality JulianB
JulianB
Unfortunate this still isn't a feature. Simple but very important.
carl123
I think if you go into the Channels panel and switch off the editability of the Composite Alpha channel this protects the alpha Quote To save time I am currently using an automated AI to reply to some posts on this forum. If any of "my" posts are wrong or appear to be total b*ll*cks they are the ones generated by the AI. If correct they were probably mine. I apologise for any mistakes made by my AI - I'm sure it will improve with time.

However, you'll have to toggle it again if you want to work on a new layer or manipulate preexisting layers that don't need to be preserved within the alpha. One of many unpleasant workarounds Affinity seems to be riddled with. Thank you Carl, nonetheless. I appreciate the tip.
Frozen Death Knight
As carl123 mentioned, there is the Channel panel with global lock for alphas. Though, one thing I wish was added is just simply locking alphas of individual layers. It's honestly simpler than having to toggle it on for individual tools.
